Standing together for awareness 💙

Members of the BCLA Vancouver Island Lymphedema Support Group joined artist and advocate Tina Martel in front of the Victoria Legislature to mark World Lymphedema Day.

Through rain, umbrellas, and a lot of heart, our community showed up to raise awareness, support one another, and shine a light on lymphedema.

Together we advocate. Together we educate. Together we are stronger.

Omega-6 🔥 vs Omega-3 🧊 — it’s all about balance.

Fish has been a staple in human evolution for thousands of years — and some researchers even hypothesize that marine nutrition played a role in expanding the human brain. 🧠🌊 As omnivores, we’ve adapted to thrive on both plant and animal foods — and omega fatty acids are a key part of that story.

Here’s the simplified science:

🔹 Omega-6 (LA → AA)
Supports normal immune function and necessary inflammation. But in excess? It can tip toward chronic inflammation.

🔹 Omega-3 (ALA → EPA → DHA)
Found in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines — these convert into powerful anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving molecules that support:
✔️ Cardiovascular health
✔️ Brain function & mood
✔️ Blood pressure regulation
✔️ Cellular membrane stability

Not everyone in North America consumes enough fish to meet recommended intakes — which is where high-quality, regulated fish oil (look for an NPN in Canada 🇨🇦) may help bridge the gap.
