To start the New Year I have decided to do a little DNS series. If you don’t know what DNS is, DNS also known as Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization is a rehabilitation approach that was founded by Pavel Kolar at the Prague School in the Czech Republic. It is based off the neurodevelopment and motor control of infants and children as they develop through their first few years of life. The development of these movement patterns is imperative for controlling and maintaining posture, movement, and gait, but sometimes along the way we lose these motor patterns or for some, they never learned them properly when they were young. DNS exercises are a great foundation for functional movement that emphasize stability and motor control and can help restore dysfunction of the locomotor system and associated syndromes.

Over the next few weeks, I am going to share a few posts with DNS exercises that I teach almost all my patients. The first step to all these exercises, however, is diaphragmatic breathing! I shared a post on diaphragmatic breathing last year, so if you aren’t sure what I’m talking about check it!

hey everyone!! it’s been awhile since I’ve shared anything on this account and I’m back at it this week to kickstart 2023 ✨

Now the new year is a time where we get a fresh start and clean slate. A time where we can set intentional goals to help achieve our dreams. For some it may be saving money for an investment, travel or paying off loans, for others living a healthier life, getting back to the gym, or working towards that big promotion. Whatever your goals are for the new year its important when you set your goals that you follow the SMART acronym and make them specific, measurable, realistic, attainable, and set a time frame for them. It can also be helpful to break your goals down into smaller tasks and write out how you are going to achieve them. For example, if you want to be healthier, how are you going to do that? Are you going to get a gym membership? Attend group fitness classes? Hire a personal trainer? Make your own meals 5-6 days a week? Get a water bottle to improve your water intake?

With that said, it’s also important to take it slow when starting any sort of lifestyle change, especially when it comes to exercising. What you could lift 5-10 years ago isn’t going to be the same today if you haven’t been exercising regularly. So, go slow, be consistent and show up for yourself! It’s a new year, anything is possible

A goal for myself this year is to be more present on this platform and share more knowledge and exercises 💪🏻

well that was a long one if you made it this far 😝

What conditions do chiropractors treat?

“I thought chiropractors only treat back pain”. This is a common misconception. Yes, chiropractors may be deemed experts or the spine but we always treat a variety of conditions from tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, and shoulder instability to muscle strains, ankle sprains and more!

So, whether you have a new injury, chronic pain, or just want to get moving again chiropractic care is a great option to help YOU 💪🏻🙌🏻

So what is an adjustment?

An adjustment or manipulation or “getting cracked” is a type of treatment used by chiropractors and other healthcare professionals that is used to move a joint thought its end-range of motion to create more motion in the surrounding area. It can help improve motion at a certain joint, create a short-term increase in ROM, cause a short-term decrease in pain, and can affect your central nervous system. It can also stretch the surrounding tissues around the joint, improve neuromuscular function, and stimulate receptors in your joints and pain receptors, which is why a lot of people experience a decrease in pain after having an adjustment!

But WHAT IS THAT POPPING SOUND? That “popping” sound you may or may not hear with an adjustment is NOT from your bones being “put back in place” or “re-aligned” because your bone was never “out of place” in the first place. The sound you hear is simply the formation of a gas bubble in the synovial fluid surrounding your joints, and when the joint is moved through its end range of motion that gas bubble is released creating that popping sound

Happy December 1st everyone🎄
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week I had been feeling a bit out of it, not quite myself and realized I hadn’t been outside to enjoy the fresh air in a while. So, my husband and I decided it was time to go for a little afternoon hike up Jocelyn Hill to get some fresh air and boy oh boy did I my body, mind and soul feel so much better after.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Living in the PNW during the fall and winter means there are very few days of clear skies and sunshine and when it feels like it rains for 4 months straight it can be hard to feel motivated to get outside, but here are a few reasons why you should!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fresh air has many benefits for our body, mind, and soul
🌿 It helps to clear your lungs
🌿 It gives you more energy and mental focus
🌿 It makes you happier
🌿 It lowers blood pressure and heart rate
🌿 It helps you heal faster and strengthens your immune system
🌿 It improves digestion
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, if you’re feeling a bit out of it, unmotivated, and not quite yourself, try going for a walk, or meet a friend at a park instead of a coffee shop. You may be surprised by how much better you feel after a little bit of fresh air 💙
