Six years ago, BC made history by passing the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) and committing to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) in partnership with First Nations. Now, the BC government is taking steps to undermine this commitment through amendments to the act. We stand with Indigenous peoples in BC and call on Premier David Eby and the BC government to recommit to meaningful implementation of UNDRIP instead of amending DRIPA.

As Indigenous scholar Judith Sayers, Cloy-e-iis, from the Hupacasath First Nation says: “It would be a huge step backwards for the province to amend DRIPA.…In six short years, and especially in the past six months, BC has gone from leading the world in addressing historic and ongoing harms to Indigenous Peoples to giving in to misinformation that is feeding an anti-Indigenous frenzy.”

Human rights, reconciliation, climate resilience, and shared prosperity are not competing goals — they are inseparable.

Can you imagine BC without ancient forests? 🌲

Old growth forests are the foundation of life here — home to salmon, bears, eagles, and towering cedars. They give us clean air, fresh water, help fight climate change, and are culturally important for First Nations.

But only a fraction still stands — and most is open to logging.

Let’s protect these giants for our communities and future generations.

This month marks two years since Sierra Club BC and Wilderness Committee represented by Ecojustice lawyers won in Federal Court against the Canadian government for the Environment Minister’s failure to take reasonable action to protect critical habitat for migratory birds like the Marbled Murrelet.

But the work is far from over. Old-growth forests and other vital habitats for threatened and endangered migratory birds remain at risk. We keep returning to the government, reminding them that these ecosystems need protection today, not tomorrow.

After two years of delays, our organizations are clear: 2026 must be the year the federal government intervenes to stop the destruction of critical habitat of these species.

The Burrard Inlet is under threat. A proposed dredging project beneath the Second Narrows Bridge could undo years of ecological healing — disturbing toxic sediments and harming returning eelgrass, herring, salmon, seal, and whale populations right here in our backyard.

Join us and Ceremonial Leader Rueben George of Tsleil-Waututh Nation invites you to come together to pray for the waters of the inlet. This is an open invitation to everyone, whether you identify as part of a faith community or not. Bring friends, neighbours, and family — all are welcome.

Let’s stand up for the inlet – sign up to join the event:

The latest B.C. forestry report acknowledges a crisis—but falls short on the urgent, concrete action needed to stop old-growth logging, protect biodiversity, and support communities and workers. It’s time to move from words to change on the ground.

As Shelley Luce, Associate Director and Campaigns Director says: “B.C. does not need another vision document. It needs the political will to act on the science, honour its commitments, and protect the forests that communities and future generations depend on.”

Did you know some plants in North America eat animals? 👀🌱

One of the most mysterious ecosystems in B.C.—bogs and wetlands—are home to carnivorous plants like the round-leaved sundew sundew. Hidden among the moss, it lures insects in with sparkling “dew,” then traps and digests them.

Want to see how it works and learn how to draw these incredible plants? Join our FREE Carnivorous Bog Plant webinar to discover just how unique these species are and learn to illustrate them yourself.
