At Active Recovery Physiotherapy & Hand Clinic, we’re passionate about empowering our clients with the education and exercises they need to get better. We use our extensive physiotherapy experience with injury rehabilitation and exercise prescription to help you recover faster! Our physiotherapists will provide you with a thorough physical assessment, assess your timelines and goals for rehabilitation and develop a customized treatment plan to get you back to all the activities you enjoy as quickly as possible. We provide detailed home exercise programs for flexibility, strength or posture, some hands-on treatment, and modalities for pain and to facilitate healing where appropriate. We offer specialized hand therapy services but we do treat the entire body! The arm is part of the body as a whole! You’ll leave your initial appointment with a plan for your recovery and a home exercise program to get started on your own. Our physiotherapists are licensed with the College of Physical Therapy of British Columbia (CPTBC) and members of the Physiotherapy Associations of Canada (CPA) and British Columbia (PABC). Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) are physiotherapists or occupational therapists with over 4000 hours of clinical experience rehabilitating injuries and conditions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand under the mentorship of a CHT. All Certified Hand Therapists have written and passed a rigorous examination through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) demonstrating their advanced knowledge in rehabilitation of the upper extremity. Our CHT’s are also members of the Canadian Society of Hand Therapists (CSHT) and regularly attend continuing education courses to maintain certification.

Habit #5: Strategic breaks

Repetition adds up quietly.
Short, intentional breaks from typing, gripping, or repetitive tasks can reduce strain before discomfort starts.

Even a quick reset helps.

Hydration matters more than you think 💧
Your joints rely on fluid to move smoothly, nourish tissue, and tolerate daily load.
A simple habit. Often overlooked.

Save this as a reminder to sip throughout the day.

Habit #3 in our weekly hand-therapy tip series: Optimal posture practices.

When your desk height, chair position, or shoulder posture are off, extra strain travels down the chain - straight into your hands and wrists. Over time, that added stress can make everyday tasks feel harder than they should.

A few simple posture adjustments can help:
• Reduce unnecessary load through your arms
• Improve how your hands tolerate daily demands
• Support long-term comfort and function

Lifting shouldn’t come at the cost of your hands or wrists.

If your grip, wrists, or elbows are taking the hit during workouts, it’s often not about lifting less — it’s about lifting smarter.

Habit #2: Stretch With Intention

Your hands don’t work in isolation.
Tension in your fingers, wrists, and shoulders all contributes to how your hands feel throughout the day.

Gentle, intentional stretching (done regularly) can help reduce built-up tension and support smoother movement during daily tasks.

It doesn’t need to be long or complicated.
Consistency matters more than intensity.

This is Tip #2 in our 5 Simple Habits to Ease Hand & Wrist Discomfort series.

If your hands feel stiff or sore first thing in the day, jumping straight into tasks can make everything feel harder.

A simple warm-up—like warm water, a towel, or gentle movement—can help prepare your hands for what’s ahead by easing stiffness and supporting circulation.

It’s a small habit, but one we often start with because it sets the tone for the rest of your day.

This is Tip #1 in our 5 Simple Habits to Ease Hand & Wrist Discomfort series.
We’ll be sharing one practical habit each week.

These are just a few of the 10 therapist-approved strategies we’ve put together in our free guide.
