The Westshore Wolves are proud to announce their first-ever Pink in the Rink game, taking place Saturday, January 24, 2026, in support of Victoria Hospice. This special event will bring together players, fans, and community partners to raise funds and awareness for compassionate end-of-life care and grief support services that make a lasting difference for families across Greater Victoria.

“Pink in the Rink is about more than hockey — it’s about community, compassion, and giving back,” said David Edgar, Sponsorship and Community Engagement Coordinator for the Westshore Wolves. “We’re honoured to partner with Victoria Hospice and help raise funds for the vital care they provide to families during life’s most difficult moments.”

Fans can look forward to a memorable evening filled with community spirit, raffle prizes, a silent auction, and limited-edition pink jerseys worn by the Wolves for this one-night-only event. Each jersey will later be auctioned off, with proceeds directly benefiting Victoria Hospice.

The Wolves are inviting local businesses and individuals to get involved through jersey sponsorships or silent auction donations. Sponsorship opportunities include having your company logo featured on the custom pink jerseys, offering excellent visibility while supporting a meaningful cause.

Join us as we turn the rink pink and skate for a cause that truly matters.

"Gary lived as large as his 6’5” stature. During our courtship, he “road tested” me on the back of his Goldwing motorcycle, and together we travelled all over the province. But it was during a trip to the Grand Canyon that we both realized something special was happening between us. Gary viewed life as one big adventure, and our marriage was filled with many of them. Though our story began on two wheels, Gary’s heart always belonged to the water. Having served six years in the Navy right after high school, he was happiest when surrounded by waves. We spent about seven years exploring the inlets of the Pacific Northwest on our 32-foot Bayliner, Restless Too. Eventually, Gary decided he needed a bigger boat, so we bought a 52-foot steel Kristen sailboat named Forever & Ever, complete with a dinghy called Amen. That boat became our home for eleven unforgettable years as we sailed from Haida Gwaii all the way to Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Along the way, we shared countless adventures and built friendships that have lasted a lifetime."~ Gary's wife, Dayle

"In January of 2017 a beautiful soul was lost in her earthly form. This soul was my sweet mom but she was also a daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, friend and an amazing teacher to countless students over her career. She was gentle, kind and wise. She had a way of making everyone around her feel important and heard, making her kitchen table a gathering place for family and friends. Growing up, and for years after I no longer lived in her house, it was a rare occasion to walk into the kitchen and not find someone sitting at her table with a smile on their face while she busied herself in the kitchen serving coffee, tea and meals to them. Coming from a large Italian family, feeding her people was one of her love languages."~ Kirsten remembers her mom, Patricia.

"Penny left this earth as a mom, a grandma, a sister and a friend to many. She was larger than life. She loved to dance, and had a genuine interest and love of people – she lived every day to the fullest. When her journey ended, the hospice staff did something we will never forget. They gathered around her with us in a simple, beautiful ritual—acknowledging Penny’s life, her dignity, and the love that surrounded her. They thanked her for the privilege of caring for her. That gesture brought us enormous comfort, closure, and peace. "~ Penny's sisters, Patti and Shannon

Today we gratefully acknowledge the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller and the Times Colonist Christmas Fund for their generous $10,000 grant to support Victoria Hospice’s Child and Youth Bereavement program.

For over a decade, the Sovereign Order has stood beside Victoria Hospice—helping us offer counselling, peer support, and safe spaces where young people can share their stories and begin to heal. Their partnership with the Times Colonist Christmas Fund amplifies this impact, reaching families facing some of life’s most difficult moments.

Today, this gift ensures that no child in our city has to navigate loss alone. Thank you for your compassion, commitment, and 12 years of unwavering support.

Huge thanks to Bartlett Tree Experts - Victoria for their amazing in-kind donation of much needed tree and shrub maintenance in the Rooftop Garden! The crew created a pristine canvas for our volunteer decorating team to come in and turn the garden into a festive winter wonderland.

Come by the RJH Richmond Pavilion (4th floor) to check it out, and while here you can also hang a star on the Dedicate a Star tree in memory of a loved one. Visit victoriahospice.org/celebrate to learn more about our Celebrate a Life program!

Our Story

Victoria Hospice is a registered charity that has provided end-of-life care focused on palliative treatment since 1980. Our nurses, counsellors, spiritual caregivers, physicians, and trained volunteers provide comfort for the patient and support for the family, rather than a cure for progressive and life-limiting illness.

Care is offered in patients’ homes, within our 17-bed in-patient unit, and as specific medical consultation to patients in other health care facilities. Over 300 trained volunteers provide companionship and support. Victoria Hospice offers bereavement support to families for up to one year following a death.

Roughly 50 percent of Victoria Hospice's annual operating costs are funded through community donations. Funds are raised from a variety of sources, including private donations, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events.
