2026 marks 40 years of our parent organization, Independent Living Canada / Vie autonome Canada!

✨ Something big is brewing… ✨
We want to close our first full week of the new year with exciting news! In 2026, IL Canada marks a powerful milestone — 40 years of disability leadership, community, and the insistence for accessibility, independence and inclusion across Canada.

✅ Four decades of voices raised.
✅ Four decades of barriers challenged.
✅ Four decades of nothing about us without us.

We’re getting ready to unveil more about our special anniversary year that honours where we’ve been, celebrates who we are, and looks boldly toward the future. 🎉

Stay tuned for all that remind us just how far we’ve come — and how much further we’ll go, together.

40 years strong. 2026 is just the beginning.
🧡❤️💙💚
--------------------------------------
✨ Un grand événement se prépare… ✨

🧡❤️💙💚

At the Victoria Disability Resource Centre, we believe that stories about people with disabilities must reflect accuracy, dignity, and lived experience.

We appreciate the thoughtful context shared by Disability Alliance BC (DABC) in response to the recent Global News segment. Their statement highlights the complexity of British Columbia’s social assistance system and the realities faced by people who rely on it.

As a non-profit that supports individuals with disabilities every day, we see firsthand the challenges that come with navigating these processes. We also know how important it is that public conversations around disability and income support are fair, balanced, and grounded in fact.

We encourage our community to read DABC’s full statement below and to stay informed about the experiences of people with disabilities in our province.
