A quick update on our Disability Inclusion & Awareness Training on March 24 — we already have a few registrations!

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is a good time to sign up. The session is limited to eight participants to keep the conversation small, informal, and interactive.

For years, our Disability Inclusion & Awareness Training has been booked by employers for their staff. Lately, we’ve had many people ask, “Can I attend on my own?” The answer is yes! We’re hosting a special in-person session at our office for individuals who want to learn, ask questions, and...

Interested in playing some fun video games with friends? Wa-hoo!

The first Friday of every month, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm, we're hosting an Accessible Gaming Hangout! We'll be featuring a variety of Nintendo Switch games that can be played with two or more players! Many of these games also have some really neat accessibility features!

The game line-up includes:
-Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: classic racing fun for up to four players, with steering wheel controllers!
-The Vale: Shadow of the Crown: an immersive role-playing game that is entirely
played through audio cues, ideal for people who are blind!
-Super Mario Party: a competitive multiplayer with a large collection of fun mini games!
-Nintendo Switch Sports: a variety of sports, including bowling, basketball and more, with simple motion controls

We’re doing something new… and we’re excited about it.

Our Disability Inclusion & Awareness Training is usually booked by employers for their teams. But we’ve had many people ask if they can attend on their own — so we’re opening up a special session just for individuals.

📍 817A Fort Street, Victoria
🗓 Tuesday, March 24, 2026
⏰ 5:00 PM (3 hours)
💲 $99 + 5% GST
☕ Light refreshments provided
👥 Limited to eight participants

This is not a lecture. It’s an interactive, small-group conversation led by trainers with lived experience of disability. We talk about disability, unconscious bias, inclusive language, accessibility, and how to feel more confident and comfortable in everyday situations.

There is plenty of time for questions. Curiosity is welcome.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting a Disability Inclusion & Awareness Training for several members of Victoria’s event and service-oriented community, led by Aran from the Victoria Disability Resource Centre.

This workshop brought together attendees from a wide range of event and service-oriented organizations across Victoria, creating space for shared learning and thoughtful conversation across sectors.

This session wasn’t about getting everything “right” or being afraid of saying the wrong thing. It was about awareness, curiosity, and connection. About asking questions, listening with care, and understanding how small shifts in language and perspective can help everyone feel more welcome.

One idea that really stayed with us came from an attendee who shared the difference between calling out and calling in.
Calling in invites us to pause, look inward, and choose calm, kind communication as we learn together. It creates space for growth rather than fear, and helps build the kind of community where everyone belongs.

This is the first of several workshops GVFS plans to host throughout the year, with the goal of bringing community event planners and service providers together to help make Victoria one of the most inclusive, welcoming, and safety-conscious event communities in British Columbia.

A heartfelt thank you to Aran and the Victoria Disability Resource Centre for sharing their knowledge so generously, and to Dodds Furniture for graciously donating their space so we could gather, learn, and reflect together.

Inclusion isn’t about knowing everything.
It’s about being open, thoughtful, and willing to learn together as a community. 🤍
