A quick reintroduction and a bit about how I work:
I'm Jon! I've been practicing as an Athletic Therapist for 10 years in this city that I grew up in and love.
As a member of the q***r, ethnic, and neurodivergent community, I have found myself able to understand and work with a host of diverse community needs that the healthcare industry often struggles to navigate efficiently. Beyond simply understanding the body and providing what it physically needs lies the necessary ability to communicate effectively with patients to learn and overcome their barriers, explore their experiences, and troubleshoot the naturally-imperfect lives and habits that we all live.
Spending time around different cultural norms has taught me that everyone perceives their body and health very differently, with some of us having a tough time interpreting our bodies' signals and others struggling with a hypervigilance toward it. Knowing this helps me to have a proper conversation with clients to help clarify the narrative around their discomfort and properly tailor the approach we take to breaking their pain cycles.
I had an active childhood, but not one that involved organized sports. While I developed a proficiency for sport and fitness as an adult, I understand the contentious relationship that many folks have with exercise and that a classically-active lifestyle is not going to be right for a lot them. Suitably, my home programs are going to reflect the capacity of movement that clients will be comfortable challenging themselves with.
And finally, I despise the philosophy of, "Just do it," that only those who are experienced in exercise and habit changes already are versed with. None of us (including me!) are perfect when it comes to healthy habits and making changes, and so far be it beyond me to dictate a recovery plan that doesn't involve you in the negotiation process.
My clinic is a safe space for everyone to express their individual needs. Medicine should not place you in a box or tell you how you should feel.
