Yoga with Ida

Yoga with Ida Strength & flexibility rooted in alignment and mindfulness.
30 years of practice • 15 years teaching. All levels welcome. By donation.

Saturdays 10:00-11:00am at James Bay United Church, Victoria. Daily classes include a variety of Hatha and Flow styles for all levels, Restorative, Yin, Meditation and Yoga Nidra in a safe and nurturing environment. We are also the only official yogahour® studio in Canada. Yogahour is a difficult but doable, alignment-based, expertly-taught 60-minute hatha flow class designed to make you as strong as you are flexible, as flexible as you are strong. It is affordable (only $10 drop-in) and accessible even to fit beginners who are injury-free. These classes are taught in a warm, not hot, classroom environment which promotes gentle release of muscle and fascia without compromising safety. High open ceilings, natural light, a peaceful atmosphere in the centre of downtown, highly-trained, knowledgeable, compassionate teachers and staff contribute to a nourishing experience for the body, breath, mind, and spirit.

Calf stretch not helping? Release first, then stretch. Tight isn’t always short - sometimes it’s guarded. Find “the spot” and go slow. The magic is in the breathing. ✨😮‍💨✨

We’re super happy to announce that, in addition to Taiji practices, we now offer yoga classes on Saturday mornings! Here’s what Yoga with Ida, our amazing teacher, is sharing about them:

'Welcome! I'm Ida Winter, a certified yoga instructor with a passion for helping others find balance and strength through yoga. I have been practicing yoga for over 30 years and have 15 years' yoga teaching experience.

Classes will be a challenging yet grounding blend of strength, flexibility and mindfulness suitable for all levels. My past students from MokSana will remember this class as yogahour.

I'm looking forward to practicing with you soon!'

If you don’t have a mat or a yoga block, you’re welcome to borrow one of ours.

Saturdays, 10:00–11:00 am, Sanctuary (ramp door).

Drop in only, no need to register in advance.

Admission by donation.

Many tight hips aren’t actually a flexibility problem — they’re a guarding problem.

The psoas connects your spine to your legs and tightens when your body thinks you need to brace, move quickly, or stay alert (long sitting, walking all day, stress, screens).

In this supported position your back is safe and the heavy leg tells your brain you’re not about to run.

The body often releases on its own.

Hold 1–2 minutes each side and breathe slowly.

Join me Saturday mornings 10-11am at James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan St, by donation. And yup, we’re going to tackle this pose this week. 😎

Most people stretch their hamstrings by pulling their chest to their legs…
and end up stretching their low back instead.

Doing it on the floor lets your spine relax while your legs actually lengthen.

Slow, gentle, and your back feels better after — not tighter.
