Acuity Acupuncture

Acuity Acupuncture Owen Parnell is an Acupuncturist and Visual Artist from Victoria, BC. I love the purposefulness and the creativity of this work.

I grew up in Victoria, and have had lived experience of eastern healing arts since childhood. In my early 20’s, fresh out of art school, I enrolled to study acupuncture, as I figured it would be good to know and apply to the rest of my life. Near the end of my studies, my daughter was born, and I began the hustle of a budding clinician and entrepreneur. Six years later I feel confident to meet what comes, and help a broad spectrum of people in reaching their health goals. I view patient comfort and trust as an essential element of a good treatment, and modify my approach to suit the unique physiology, temperament and circumstances of each patient. I can be gentle or strong in my methods depending on what suits you best. My ultimate goal is to improve my patients quality of life as much as possible. I want you to be liberated in a sense, from physical pain, restricted movement, self imposed limitations, or whatever it is that ails you. If you tell me you hate your job, I will encourage you to consider your options. I employ the classical approaches of acupuncture, massage, cupping, guasha, conversation and counsel, lifestyle recommendations. I also use some tools not so common to acupuncturists, Laser therapy AKA PBMT (photobiomodulation therapy), and toksen (thai hammer massage). Outside of the clinic, I am blessed to co-parent my young daughter. I have a background in visual arts, and maintain a slow but steady visual art and martial arts practice. It’s an honour and privilege to be of service in this way. Thank you for considering me as a helper on your path.

Our Story

Owen Parnell is an Acupuncturist born raised and educated here in Victoria, BC. Owen has studied D**g Han Korean Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and Martial Arts Since 2011. His interest in healing Qi Gong is what lead him to enroll in Oshio College Acupuncture Program. Though his introduction to the eastern healing arts was his mother’s practice of Jin Shin Do Pain relief, emotional stress and it’s physical manifestations are Owen's forte, and he produces affirming results in a broad range of conditions. He uses martial arts and meditation as tools for sharpening his awareness. This improves his ability to provide pleasant treatments with great results. Owen practices free hand and where applicable, shallow needle technique. He is trained in the NADA (National Acupuncture Detox Association)’s 5 ear points protocol. This simple protocol helps balance the body and manage stress. He often use it in conjunction with body treatments. Owen doesn’t view acupuncture treatment as a magic bullet for healing the body, but a tool to help the body to heal itself. We all know our bodies have amazing self-healing abilities. Sometimes our bodies are just faced with circumstances that they can’t work out on their own. In the treatment room, Owen integrates massage and acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, TDP therapy, and range of motion exercises. Having seen how well different modalities can work together, he is excited to ally with your current health professionals, to further benefit your quality of life. Outside of Owen’s work as a healer, he is blessed to live with his wife and young daughter. He has a background in visual arts, mostly drawing and painting, but also sculpture and graphic design. He maintains a variety of hobbies, including taichi, qi gong, iaido, kendo, juggling, and percussion.
