Featured recipe from our Monthly Dose of Wellness newsletter.

This recipe blends the major components of a Fall pantry in one bowl to boost immunity.

The butternut squash adds a natural sweetness and is full of beta-carotene, which is great for supporting the immune system. Lentils give the stew some heartiness and fiber, keeping energy steady through the day. It’s a simple recipe, but I love how it nourishes in so many ways; supporting the body, soothing the gut, and even lifting the mood on those crisp autumn days.

I usually start by sautéing onions and garlic, which give the stew a lovely aromatic base and add gentle immune support. Then I add turmeric and ginger, which give the stew warmth, help digestion, and make it feel comforting to the soul. Everything simmers in bone broth, which adds depth and nourishment in the most bioavailable form. I finish it off with coconut milk for comforting creaminess and richness.

It’s a simple recipe, but I love how it nourishes in so many ways; supporting the body, soothing the gut, and even lifting the mood on those crisp autumn days.

Enjoy…

Wellness isn’t something we have to figure out alone.

Starting October 22nd, I’ll be hosting a weekly Wellness Circle at Cook Street Village Activity Center / Cook St Village every Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:00 — a small group gathering where we explore health and wellbeing in a friendly, supportive space.

Each week we’ll focus on a different topic — from blood sugar regulation, to better digestion, navigating seasonal blues, building colourful plates, and finding more calm around the holidays. It’s a chance to learn, share experiences, and connect over warm drinks and meaningful conversation.

Our first two sessions:
🍁October 22: Immune-Boosting Fall Pantry
🍁October 29: Autumn Blues – Easing the Seasonal Shift with Nourishing Foods and Simple Habits

These sessions are meant to offer more than just information — they’re about community, encouragement, and small steps that make a real difference.

If you’re looking for a space that feels genuine and supportive, I’d love for you to join us.

To keep the atmosphere comfortable and personal, we’re keeping the group small.

There’s so much power in tranquility and staying still—whether it’s indoors in a cozy corner of your home or outdoors beneath your spirit tree. Mornings are when I feel my roots grounding into the earth and begin stretching upward for the day ahead.

Having a good book to rest in? That’s the cherry on top.

🌱 This little avocado seedling — grown from a pit my son and I planted — speaks to something deeper.

There’s something profoundly therapeutic about gardening. It grounds us, gives us space to breathe, and teaches us to trust the process. Watching life grow — from seed to sprout to something whole — helps us reconnect with the rhythm of nature. Especially during life-altering moments, it can bring a deep sense of purpose, resilience, and appreciation. It reminds us that even after loss or uncertainty, regrowth is always possible. 💚

🌿 Fennel & Kale: Underrated Combo with Real Benefits

I’ve been thinking lately about how much attention kale gets (rightfully so), but how fennel is still flying under the radar—even though it absolutely deserves more space on our plates.

Fennel’s part of the allium family—same group as onions and garlic—and it’s packed with some beautiful compounds like anethole, which has been shown to calm inflammation and support healthy cell signaling. It also contains quercetin, rutin, rosmarinic acid, and fenchone—a team of antioxidants that help protect our DNA and reduce oxidative stress.

Then we have kale, which most of us are already using in some way. It’s a brassica and a dark leafy green, so it brings the best of both worlds. Its glucosinolates convert into sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol, which support detoxification and help regulate how cells grow and repair. Plus, it’s rich in kaempferol, quercetin, lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, and chlorophyll—all working in the background to keep inflammation down and oxidative stress in check.

The takeaway? Kale’s already doing good things for us, but fennel is such a lovely, underused plant ally—especially for supporting the body’s internal terrain. Roasted, shaved raw, added to soups… there are so many easy ways to bring it in.

Sometimes it’s just about remembering that healing support can look like adding more of the good stuff, in simple, consistent ways.
