Healing.
Healing is an art, a craft, a calling, a way of life, a choice and a meta-state You need tools, skills, knowledge, support and training to heal yourself and to heal others. There is so much healing needed now. I am open and willing if you are?

Journey.
Healing is a journey. It’s an adventure. There are mountains (ascents) and valleys (descents). There are luminous times and dark times, the Nigredo. There is also the black sun that is luminous. There are some well trodden paths and places where there are no paths. That is where it becomes a path made by walking. There is the destinations of a healthy body or the destination of your soul reconnected to the source, the luminous sun of spirit and the black luminous sun of matter.

Don has been on the healing journey since elementary school. In grade 6, when the teacher was explaining the periodic table and the elements he said that the traditional people were stupid because they thought there were only four elements. Don remembers waking up as from a dream with the thought that I am in the wrong classroom. That is just not true. He remembers looking out the window at the sun, sky and trees and feeling out of place. This experience was prior to having any knowledge about traditional teachings and the four elements. Somehow he was acutely aware that the wisdom of the 4 elements was powerful and the teacher was wrong.

Since then he has been deeply immersed in traditional and modern teachings of the 4 elements 🙏

The elder that most influenced my herbal healing work was Dr. Ellen White, Kwulasulwut (Many Stars), Coast Salish Elder (1922-2018).

I met Ellen White, of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, sometime in 1980 when I was 34 years old and she was just approaching 60. We immediately took a liking to each other, kindred spirits as it were. I invited her to share her knowledge with my herbal students.

One of the first events that we organized was called the Earth Medicine Festival, which Rosemary Gladstar also taught at.

Ellen taught in our Sacred Healing Journey, which we started in 1986 and is still running today. Ellen, myself, and my partner, Sandy, taught many classes and workshops together over the following years.

We had the rare privilege of attending incredible celebrations and sacred ceremonies in the long house in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Few Westerners are afforded this privilege.

Elders are more than teachers. They are carriers of extensive knowledge and power, which they transmit to their students.

Ellen taught us how to use the plants through communicating with them, and always with prayer to cleanse ourselves during bathing rituals, using water power. She introduced us to the magic of Devil’s Club, which helps to open the doors of perception to the unseen world.

Plants are sentient beings and she always talked to them. She taught us to pray to them. She did not consider herself above the plants, but humbled herself in front of them. She taught us to pray to be used for good in this world.

Ellen passed in 2018 at the age of 95. Shortly before her death she was given the Order of Canada, after having already received the Order of British Columbia for her work. At the ceremony she drummed and sang, and spoke about our need to all work together. She did not discriminate between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

We had a beautiful, long, loving relationship sharing our knowledge of the plants and of healing. She blessed me with the task of sharing her teachings with as many students as I can.

Ellen and her teachings are so deep, rich, and magical, they fill my soul. I am so grateful that this beautiful elder graced our lives.

Four Elements Herbalism Workshop.

This workshop will include Shamanism, Ayurveda, Elemental Herbalism, Dreambody with a special bonus of Alchemy and Astrology.

In the Shamanism aspect of the workshop:
We will become the elements.
We will see them as powers.
We will dive into the knowledge and teachings of my Shamanic teacher, Ellen White

The workshop is designed to be very experiential, experiential learning.

We will go through each element and tune into it, feel its power and work on becoming it (shape shifting).

Ayurveda and the three active elements of air, fire water, which are the primary elements of the doshas vata, pitta, kapha. Ayurveda is the most developed system that I’ve come across in my 50 years of herbal studies.

Elemental Herbalism and shows how herbs fit into the Ayurvedic system. We will cover the six qualities:
hot /cold
wet/dry
heavy /light
The elements that compose the 6 tastes andhow these tastes effect the three dominant elements (doshas) of air, fire and water, increasing or decreasing them.

in Dreambody we will explore the three levels of awareness;
the first level is consensual reality.
The second level is the dreaming
the third level is the sentience.

we will discuss paradigms, and how paradigms are just consensual reality constructs. A very important concept for you to get as a student. Paradigms are not divine or Magic. they are developed by people who agree upon the reality and that makes them only a consensus reality.

Bonus:

We’re going to include Alchemy and Astrology relative to the 4 elements.
