In parenting (and therapy), progress isn’t always loud — sometimes it’s a quiet “I did it.”

Celebrate small victories: a new word, a calm response, a shared laugh. 🌈

Those are the real milestones that matter.

Meet Rylie, our new Counsellor.

Hello! My name is Rylie, and I’m thrilled to join Little Steps as the new counselor. For the past six years, I have had the privilege of working with children on the autism spectrum and their families in a variety of supportive roles. During this time, I earned my Master of Counselling Psychology degree through Yorkville University.

My passion for learning and supporting children’s emotional growth has guided me to this rewarding role. I bring experience in mindfulness, emotional regulation, and sensory integration, and I strive to create a neuroaffirming and trauma-informed environment where every child feels safe, understood, and valued.

I take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based practices to meet each child and family’s unique needs. My goal is to foster resilience, build coping skills, and empower children to thrive in their everyday lives.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time at the beach, painting, and being with my friends and family. These activities help me stay grounded, creative, and connected—values I bring into my work with children and families. I’m excited to be part of the Little Steps community and look forward to supporting each child’s unique journey toward growth and well-being.

Autism isn’t something to be ‘fixed’ — it’s a different way of experiencing the world.

Awareness means more than knowing the word ‘autism.’
It means listening, accepting, and supporting every person’s unique way of communicating, thinking, and feeling.

Let’s choose understanding over judgment.
Acceptance over expectation. 💙

👻 Autism-Friendly Halloween Costumes 🎃

Halloween should be fun—not stressful!
Here are a few tips to make costume time easier for children with sensory sensitivities:

🩵 Go for comfort first. Soft, tag-free fabrics and familiar clothing can make a big difference.
🧢 DIY or customize. Turn everyday clothes into simple, creative costumes—like a favorite character’s color theme or accessory.
🕶️ Skip the masks. Face paint or hats can be great alternatives if masks feel uncomfortable.
🌈 Practice wearing it early. A trial run helps your child get used to the textures and movement.

✨ Comfort = confidence = fun!

Behaviour Consultants are like guides—they help uncover why certain behaviors happen, then work with families to build skill-focused plans using positive, personalized strategies. 🧠

Whether it's improving routines, easing transitions, or supporting communication, behaviour consultation can make everyday life smoother and more meaningful—for both kids and caregivers. 💙

Halloween can be fun—but also overwhelming for autistic kids. Here are a few ways to make it more sensory-friendly and enjoyable:

🕯️ Costume comfort first (soft fabrics, no itchy tags)
🌙 Go trick-or-treating earlier when it’s quieter
🍬 Offer alternatives—like handing out non-candy treats
💡 Practice ahead with role-play

A little preparation makes a big difference for a stress-free and fun Halloween! 💙✨
