Counsellor Heather Doidge-Sidhu

Counsellor Heather Doidge-Sidhu Registered Clinical Counsellor specializing in perinatal mental health I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Canadian Certified Counsellor.

I ground myself in a person-centred, cognitive constructivist framework, meaning that clients are the experts of their own lives. Part of my counselling process involves learning what your lived experience is in order to serve you best. My specialization is working with individuals in the perinatal time period -- meaning before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after birth. I believe healing occurs through a combination of connection, empowerment, and meaning, and I enjoy supporting clients as they find and understand the strengths they have within them. I utilize techniques from many perspectives, including Mindfulness, Adlerian, Cognitive Behavioural, Sandtray,Clinical Hypnosis, and Systems techniques. I work together with clients, providing support and guidance, as they explore their values, develop self-compassion, tune-in to their bodies' messages, and explore difficult feelings. The mind and body are intimately connected and health in one affects health in the other. I look forward to helping you on your holistic path to wellness. Helping mothers, helping babies! In many countries, as many as 1 in 5 new mothers experiences some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMADs). These illnesses frequently go unnoticed and untreated, often with tragic and long-term consequences to both mother and child.

Being a counsellor, I often talk with my clients about the incredible range of emotions we can feel in a very short period of time. For example, imagine you open your junk drawer, rummage around, and you’re surprised to find a beautiful, unopened, fancy-shmancy chocolate bar in all its glory. JOY.
Then imagine you peel back the wrapper and find that some kind of gross bug has clearly burrowed its way through the centre of the bar, leaving crumbly chocolate in its wake. DESPAIR.
Just keeping things light this evening. 🙂
(Although that did just happen to me)
