๐Ÿ‚ Have you ever noticed that when the weather gets colder, we tend to hunch our shoulders, tuck our chins, and carry more tension in our necks and upper backs?

Over time, this posture can lead to stiffness, headaches, and muscle pain.

The good news? Small daily habits make a big difference:

โœ”๏ธ Keep your shoulders relaxed, not scrunched
โœ”๏ธ Take movement breaks if youโ€™re working at a desk
โœ”๏ธ Stretch your chest and upper back to open your posture
โœ”๏ธ Stay mindful of your alignment when walking in the cold

By supporting your posture this time of year, youโ€™ll help your spine stay balanced and your body feel its best, regardless of the temperature outside. โ„๏ธโœจ

The holiday season can be magical, but it can also be stressful.

Long to-do lists, shopping trips, travel, and even cooler weather can cause us to carry tension in our neck, shoulders, and back. Stress doesnโ€™t just live in your mind. It shows up in your body as muscle tightness, headaches, poor posture, and fatigue. Left unchecked, that tension can lead to pain and discomfort well into the new year.

Chiropractic care can help release that built-up tension and restore proper movement in your spine, helping you feel calmer, move more freely, and enjoy the season with less pain.

โœจ Prioritize yourself this holiday season. Book an adjustment and give your body the gift of relief.

One size doesnโ€™t fit all when it comes to your health.

I believe your treatment plan should be as unique as you are. Your bodyโ€™s story, strengths, and challenges deserve more than a cookie-cutter approach.

Iโ€™m Dr. Stephanie Louie, born and raised in Victoria. I grew up swimming, skating, and playing tennis, always curious about how the body moves and what disrupts that movement. I craved a more proactive approach to healthcare that addressed the root cause of health problems rather than simply treating the symptoms. That drive compelled me to pursue further studies in human physiology and biomechanics, ultimately leading to an Honours degree in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria. From there, I applied to and won a scholarship to the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, a world-renowned school with an evidence-based approach to healthcare. Since my fascination for human physiology never left me, I decided to complete a concurrent degree in Human Biology along with my Doctorate in Chiropractic.

At Mind Body Spine, I take a hands-on, whole-body approach tailored to you:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Combining chiropractic adjustments with exercise and nutritional guidance.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Supporting people of all ages, from pregnant moms and children to athletes and seniors.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Using my background in kinesiology and human biology to ensure treatments are evidence-based and effective.

When was the last time you felt truly seen, heard, and understood by a healthcare provider? I hope to see you soon.

Just because the days are cooler and darker doesnโ€™t mean movement has to stop.

Bundle up and enjoy a brisk walk along the waterfront, try a cozy indoor yoga class ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ, or explore local trails on a clear afternoon. Gentle, consistent movement keeps your spine strong, improves flexibility, and helps reduce seasonal stress.

If back pain or stiffness is slowing you down, there are safe ways to stay active and supported through the winter months.

Sitting for long periods can take a real toll on your body. ๐Ÿช‘

Use your breaks to reset your spine and reduce stiffness.

Try these three movement resets during your workday:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Move every 15-20 minutes and do a 60-second spine circuit: Stand up, do 5 chin nods, 10 shoulder rolls, gentle side bends, and a light torso twist.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Walk breaks: Take a brisk 10-15 minute walk mid-morning and mid-afternoon or turn one call into a walk-and-talk.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Active lunch: Step away from your desk for a short walk or a few flights of stairs. Avoid staying seated the entire break.

Small habits add up. Your back will thank you. For more, check out our stretches for office workers ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://mindbodyspine.ca/stretches-for-office-workers/

Most of us know movement is healthy, and we should be doing it every day.

As we become adults, our spines can become less flexible because we tend to forget to move them in a full range of motion. Unlike the movement we often see in children as they perform somersaults and backbends, as we age, injuries often prevent regular movement, which can lead to pain and degeneration. To keep the spine young and healthy, it needs to move, just like all the other joints in your body.

Here's a simple way to get started:

Take 2โ€“3 minutes each morning or evening to move your spine in all six directions:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Flexion (forward bend)
๐Ÿ‘‰ Extension (gentle backward arch)
๐Ÿ‘‰ Side bends (left and right)
๐Ÿ‘‰ Rotation (twist left and right)

These motions keep your joints lubricated and your back feeling less stiff.
