Have you ever wondered what people mean when they talk about TMJ?
TMJ stands for your temporomandibular joint, the little hinge on each side of your face that connects your lower jaw to your skull. It’s what lets you talk, chew, yawn and open your mouth.
When this joint or the muscles around it don’t work smoothly, you might feel jaw pain, clicking or popping, headaches, ear pressure, or trouble opening and closing your mouth, which is known as temporomandibular dysfunction, or TMD.
Some people think it’s just jaw pain, but TMD issues can show up as neck or face pain, ear discomfort, or tension when chewing.
If your jaw doesn’t feel quite right, it might be worth exploring.
