Back again with another at home Gua sha technique with things you already have laying around! No need for fancy Gua sha tools or fancy topicals - a mason jar lid or pasta sauce lid and some regular oil or lotion will do just the trick!

Be sure to keep your neck and upper back covered if you try this as doing Gua sha on this area to keep it protected if you are in a cold room with AC or a fan on & if you go outside!!

Did you grow up with your family doing some sort of this technique when you were sick?? Let me know!

As always, follow me for more practical TCM takeaways 💥

Do you have a mason jar lid and some oil or body lotion? Try this pro tip to help relieve tight, stiff traps!

1. Get your hair out of the way
2. Apply oil or lotion to your neck and down your traps (top of shoulders)
3. With gentle-medium pressure hold the lid at about a 45 degree angle
4. “Scrap” the lid along the pathway of the muscle and wherever you’re feeling extra tightness. I like to go from top to bottom. You should start to see some redness come up and maybe even some small red/purple dots called “sha”. This is good! It’s the circulation getting increased and any stuck muscle tension and stagnation coming to the surface.
5. Continue for 3-5 minutes and you’re good to go!

**doing this opens up the channels of the neck and shoulders which makes them more vulnerable to catching potential pathogens like a cold or flu. Be sure to cover up and wear a scarf or warm jacket if you are going outside after a Gua sha session!
