Some nervous systems respond to long periods of stress by going into what’s called functional freeze

From the outside, everything may appear fine

You keep working
You keep showing up
You keep taking care of others

But inside you might feel:
• Exhausted
• Numb or disconnected
• Chronically tense
• Unable to truly rest

This is a very intelligent survival response from the nervous system

There’s a quiet intelligence within the body that is always orienting toward balance

Even after long periods of stress or overwhelm, nothing inside you is trying to work against you

Often, the body is simply holding patterns that once helped you cope… but no longer feel supportive

This kind of holding can be subtle

You might not always be able to name it, but you can feel it in the background of your experience

A sense of bracing, efforting, or never quite being able to fully let go

In my work, I’m not trying to “fix” the body

I’m listening for these quieter patterns and creating space for them to shift, at a pace the nervous system can actually receive

Because real change doesn’t usually come from force

This is for you

Being highly sensitive isn’t a flaw

It’s a finely tuned nervous system

But without the right support, in the overstimulating world we are living in today, it can also mean feeling:

Overwhelmed
Drained
Dysregulated
Or unable to switch off

There are just too many stressors around us to find space and time to regulate sufficiently between our exposure to each

And when we’re empathic, we absorb this lower vibration energy like a sponge

And because we have a greater depth and rage of emotion, and emotional processing, we might feel it stronger, even when it isn’t ours to feel

Your nervous system heals when you feel safe enough to soften

It’s up to you to create safety in your daily routine and surroundings and provide safety cues for your system

Bright screens tell the brain it’s daytime, so cortisol production overrides melatonin production and this disrupts your ability to sleep

Even if you fall asleep fast, screentime actually causes broken, poor sleep quality as well

Yellow filters about 50% of blue light, whereas orange filters even more

If you must have evening screentime, at least filter it with orange somehow

Another example: over-stretching signals to the nervous system that you’re not safe in your own body

So don’t overdo it

Take it slow, take it easy

Listen to your body

Stillness and patience are fundamental to healing

When the body has been living in survival mode for a long time, it can forget how to soften

The body stays tense

Even rest can feel strangely uncomfortable

This isn’t something you’re doing wrong

It’s simply the nervous system doing what it learned to do in order to protect you
