With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Audrey Middleton, who departed peacefully on October 11, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on January 8, 1930, and raised on a farm outside of Lomond, Alberta, Audrey’s early years ingrained in her an appreciation for hard work and the beauty of rural life. Audrey began her career working at a bank in High River, eventually transferring to the Vulcan branch—where, as fate would have it, she met and married Barry Middleton, the love of her life. Together, they built a fulfilling life on their farm near Vulcan.

Audrey and Barry were most proud of their five children and their families. Audrey, in particular, encouraged her children to embrace education and lifelong learning. She instilled in them curiosity, perseverance, and a drive to grow—qualities that enriched their lives in countless ways.

Audrey is survived by her children: Sherry Seshadri, Debra Fenwick (with husband George), Janice Giles (with partner Gary Yewell), Marla Freitag (with husband Wayne), and Allan Middleton. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jagan Seshadri (with wife Carin), Jana Seshadri, Janine Giles, Justin Giles (with wife Jenn), and Chris Giles (with partner Sarah Grant); and by her great-grandchildren: Jaron, Kai, Clara, Brielle, and Katherine. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Barry; her parents, Jane and William Grant; her son-in-law, Sesh Seshadri; and her siblings, Allan Grant, Derwyn Grant, and Elaine Schneider.

Audrey’s life was a tapestry of dedication—to her family and to the land she loved. She and Barry shared a passion for gardening, and Audrey’s large vegetable garden and beautiful flower beds were a testament to her nurturing spirit. Even at 95, she remained on the farm, surrounded by the beauty she had cultivated and the memories she had made.

Known for her sharp memory, love of bookkeeping, and fondness for word games, Audrey was quick-witted and full of good humor. She was admired for her resilience and strength. Her absence leaves a profound void, but her legacy will live on in the stories her family shares and the love they carry forward.

A private family celebration of life will be held in the near future to honor Audrey’s incredible journey and the enduring mark she left on all who knew her.

Brian (Jesse) James Jodoin

May 11, 1961 – October 7, 2025

After a courageous fight with cancer, Jesse passed away with his wife, Wendy, at his side.

Jesse’s driving passion was music, and he lit up on stage, singing and playing guitar. He loved the Rockabilly style of the 50’s and 60’s, considering Elvis a mentor.

In his younger years, he was part of an Elvis tribute show. He toured with his own show band, and ended with Rockabilly Cruise, including himself, and as he always said, “the beautiful monsters” he created, his wife Wendy, and Angel Smith.

He would strive for the “flash in the pan”, taking great pride in decorating the stage and wearing the clothing of the era. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and audiences.

As per Jesse’s request, there will not be a Celebration of Life Service.

09/30/2025

Florence Ditto passed away at the age of 80 on September 27th, 2025 with her loving husband Maurice at her side holding hands.
Florence (Flo / Nana) is now having coffee with her dearest past friends and family, catching up with friends Rita, Shirly, sister Gretta, Uncle Harold, Pat B. and Uncle Wayne, and probably describing the tree Maurice fell out last month, and for sure all about 2 young ladies Daralan and Davanna.
Florence was born on July 20th 1945 in Vulcan, Alberta to Mart and Annie Jose, where she grew up and lived almost her entire life on the same family farm 6 miles north of Vulcan.
Florence was no stranger to hard work from a young age, along with her best friend and sister Gretta. She was no stay in the house cooking and dolls girl – there were chickens and cattle, and many many a day sitting on an open air / steel seat W9 International.
In 1960 Florence met the love of her life Maurice Ditto and they were wed on September 19th 1963. Florence was a young bride to Maurice when Maurice accepted a position on the Stuart Douglass farm, and it was at this time Florence and Maurice had 2 sons – Duane and Dean. Florence was an integral part of the farm, and on a moments notice would have a hardy meal fit for hardworking men, and get it out to the field in record time. Stuart always appreciated her driving when a machine part was necessary in the middle of harvest. Why? Because Florence could drive like a Bat Outta Hell! A dust cloud could be seen for a mile or so, as the fins on the back of the Chev Biscayne stabilized the car so she didn't get airborne. She could always stick the gravel roads, no matter how much mud or gravel was in her path.
All the women of that era wore bouffant hairdo’s. Darlene and Lesley (nieces) were little girls, and would watch in wonder while Florence back combed her beautiful blonde hair. She then had to set it with a half can of hair spray. It looked very becoming on her, and served a daily purpose. No Alberta wind could mess that cute hairstyle. Of course she looked amazing, while Maurice sported his classy duck tail black hair. She was a gorgeous tall blonde with long legs, to his dark and handsome looks.

Florence was incredibly talented, and loved the farm life. She loved good hard work. She could make beautiful crafts, keep a clean house, all while either helping paint a huge barn, driving a grain truck during harvest, or cooking meals for all the hired men.
Florence had learned how to play the accordion when she was young. During school she took business courses, and learned secretarial shorthand ~ some kind of archaic code that only secretaries could write, decipher, and comprehend.
In 1977, Florence & Maurice moved to Florence’s family farm where her & Maurice took over its operation. Life wasn’t easy – nothing was handed to them for free. They started with an 1850 Cockshutt tractor & a 96 JD combine. While Maurice worked days at S & S Concrete, Florence took jobs off the farm (dairy bar, bakery, IGA, etc.) all while raising her two boys, along with chores for a wide assortment of animals, plus always making sure supper was ready for Maurice getting home and family. Then heading out to the field during harvest and seeding times, driving the truck, and all the while doing all the household chores and making lunches and making sure the kids got to all activities. Florence amazingly performed all this as while having been diagnosed with MS around 1984.
In 2014 this somewhat changed with Maurice retiring from farming. Florence still had an off the farm job, but more time was spent in her passion of yard work. Anyone who visited the farm would be well aware of the passion and time Florence and Maurice put into the upkeep of the farm. Although in the last few years, Florence was unable to do the work herself, most any day in the summer you could look out and Florence would be in her scooter directing Maurice on what needed to be done.
In 2001 the newest passion of Florence arrived as a sweet baby girl named Daralan, her first of two beautiful granddaughters. Davanna was born shortly after in 2004. It was now “Nana and Papa” where they became fixtures at every possible school function and sporting event. Nana was the first ready to travel anywhere to any town/city to watch the lights of her life at any opportunity. Along with countless days teaching two girls to cook, and many crafts, and general teachings of “Life Values”. The highlight of Nana’s life for last 10 years – each and every weekend watching Daralan & Davanna play hockey on TV where ever they may have been, from Okanagan to Windsor, to Freemont Nebraska.
Florence (Flo / Nana) will be dearly be missed by her Husband and best friend Maurice of 62 years, and Granddaughters Daralan and Davanna who for them, the world revolved around Nana.
Florence is survived by husband Maurice, son’s Duane and Dean (Jennifer), granddaughter’s Daralan and Davanna and niece Lavonda (Kim / Cole / Kera)
Predeceased by Mart and Anie Jose (Father and Mother), and Gretta Loose (sister)
A graveside Service will be held Saturday, October 11th, 2025, at 12:00 Noon.
Family and Friends are welcome to come to Florence & Maurice’s farm for coffee following the graveside service.

“Let Me Go” by Christina Georgina Rosetti

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not for long.
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we shared.
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the master plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
Laugh at all the things we used to do.
Miss me but let me go.

Jacob Jerry Den Tuinder went home to be with our Lord and Savior on June 25, 2025 at Extendicare in Vulcan after a battle with cancer.

Jacob (Jake) Jerry Den Tuinder was born August 1, 1937 in Strijen, Netherlands to Dirk and Adriantje “Nancy” den Tuinder where he lived his childhood years.

In 1953 the North Sea flood was a major flood in the Netherlands and they lost everything. Jerry remembers the time Jake saved him from drowning when he fell off his bike into the d**e after the flood.

Jake and his parents and brother Jerry moved to Elmvale, Ontario, Canada in April, 1954 where his father worked on a dairy farm. They came to Canada on the Ship Called the Great Bear. Not long after they moved to Canada, Hurricane Hazel flood caused significant damage in Elmvale, Ontario and again they lost everything they had. In May 1955, Dirk, Nancy and Jerry returned to the Netherlands while Jake stayed behind. Jake was 17 years old, alone in a new country

Jake moved to Alberta and worked for Willis McIntyre for a few years. Dirk, Nancy and Jerry returned to live in Alberta in 1959 and the family (Dirk, Nancy, Jake and Jerry) rented an acreage owned by Emil Hartung. Jake had Brown Swiss Cattle and this he really enjoyed.

Dirk and Nancy purchased the quarter section where they lived the remainder of their lives in 1962. This became the family farm.

Jake bought an acreage nearby and he worked for Emil Hartung on the farm. He later sold the acreage and moved to the Peace Country (northern Alberta) where he worked for local farmers for a few years.

Jake and his father Dirk enjoyed going to antique sales and they purchased many antique items. Dirk would refurbish them. They would travel for miles in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

In 1989 Jake’s father, Dirk passed away and he moved back to the family farm. Jake was a hard worker and he loved the land.

Jake married the love of his life Sally Ann Schlaphoff in July 2005. Jake and Sally enjoyed many happy years on the acreage. Sally was a good cook and they were always happy to have company. Jake loved meeting new people and always had time to have a chat. Jake and Sally both loved antiques and vintage cars. They took many trips over the years including a trip to Alaska and many trips to BC to visit Sally’s family.

Jake is survived by his brother Jerry (Cheryl) Tuinder, Brooks, AB. His niece Lorna Stevenson (Andrew), Brooks, AB. Great niece Ashley Orr, Calgary, AB. Great nephew Jamie Orr, Brooks, AB.

Jake was predeceased by his wife Sally Ann Den Tuinder, his parents Dirk and Nancy Den Tuinder, and his nephew Rodney Tuinder.

A celebration of life will held on Friday, July 4th, 2025 , 2:00 pm at the Evangelical Missionary Church, Vulcan, Alberta.
