Rose Marie Munro of Vulcan, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Vulcan Hospital on March 19, 2026 at the age of 96.

Rose was born on September 11, 1929 in Warner, Alberta to John and Frida Bachman. She was the third of six sisters. They were a close and loving family where the pranks, teasing and jokes they loved to play on one another carried on into their adult years and even expanded to spouses and children alike. A treasured memory for Rose and her sisters was a trip to Switzerland where they had many fun stories exploring their roots.

After completing her schooling in Warner, Rose worked in the CIBC Bank there, transferring to the Vulcan Branch in 1949. In her early days in Vulcan, she met Evan Munro, and they were married on June 16, 1951. They loved their years of farming west of Kirkcaldy raising three children. Rose and Evan both attended the Vulcan United Church with a deep and abiding faith. Rose taught Sunday school and lived her life trusting Jesus.

Rose and Evan were both very community minded. She was a Charter member of the Lionettes Club and an active member, attending meetings well into her eighties. The Kirkcaldy community was also dear to her, and countless brides-to-be were treated to shower skits acted from the hilarious poems that Rose wrote. She loved her painting classes at the Kirkcaldy Hall, and also created many beautiful stitching, knitting and crocheted projects.

Rose and Evan loved camping and enjoyed many trips to the hills with friends. Rose was a wonderful homemaker, loved gardening, was an excellent cook and was known for her amazing pies. She loved animals and it was not unheard of to have a batch of kittens or puppies starting their life in the house.

Playing the piano and organ were a lifelong joy for Rose with her gift of playing by ear. She loved playing cards and board games, enjoyed curling and bowling, and learned to golf and swim after she and Evan retired to Vulcan. Fun memories were created with the Red Hatters as well.

After Evan’s death in 1991, Rose married Lloyd Graham of Vulcan in 1998, and they enjoyed their golden years together until Lloyd’s passing in 2023. The last two years Rose called the Vulcan Peter Dawson Lodge her home.

Rose’s life was filled with caring and compassion. She was kind to everyone and was very beloved by all who knew her. She had a marvellous sense of humor, quick wit and a beautiful laugh. She loved her family with all her heart and they loved her equally. She will be forever in our hearts.

Rose is survived by Sharon and Greg Fuller of Calgary, David and Tracy Munro of Vulcan, Duane and Suzanne Munro of Calgary. 9 grandchildren – Jason (Lisa) Fuller, Scott (Amy) Fuller, Pamela (Aaron) Matlock, Chad Munro, Heather (Travis) Warren, Shelesea Russell, Joseph ( Aurora) Russell, Sasha Munro, Christopher Munro. Also by 13 great grandchildren – Jake, Juliette, Pryce and Casey Fuller, Andie, Blayne and Pierce Matlock, Sam and Elliott Munro, Jackie, Emery and Evan Warren, and Victoria Russell. Sister-in-law, Marion Kettleson of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. Also by Lloyd’s daughters Valerie (Brent) Skura of Richmond, B.C., Leila (Ron) Bunton of Lethbridge, Alberta and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Frida Bachman, her first husband Evan Munro, her second husband Lloyd Graham, sisters and brothers-in-law Alice (Bruce) Colwill, Trudy (Merv) Newinger, Cecilia (Lee) Minion, Shirley (Lewis) Tudor, Louise (Marvin) Christensen, cousin Arthur (Freda) Jones, and brother-in-law Jim Kettleson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wish to offer special thanks to the staff at the Peter Dawson Lodge (Vulcan) and the Vulcan Hospital for the excellent care she received.

Donations in Rose’s memory can be made to the Vulcan Hospital Palliative Care, the Lionettes Club of Vulcan, Vulcan United Church, or the charity of choice.

Louise Dodds
1947 - 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louise Dodds on March 6, 2026, at the age of 78. After a long and difficult struggle with her health, she passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side.

Louise was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Bessie Johnsen, and her sister Judy. She leaves behind Mason, her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, and their children Shannon (Steve) Colle and Tommy Dodds, as well as her brother Peter (Barb) Johnsen.

She was a loving and cherished Grandma to Sean, Sabrina (Chad), KC (Andrew), Justin (Paige), and Chris (Krys), and a proud Great-Grandma “GG” to Cashton, Carter, Luna, Braxton, Eisley, Ashlyn, and Jimmy.

Louise and Mason shared many adventures and formed wonderful, lasting friendships during their years living throughout British Columbia. They made homes in the communities of Penticton, Burns Lake, Stewart, Fort Nelson, Salmon Arm, Atlin, Dease Lake, Tumbler Ridge, and Valemount before eventually settling in Vulcan, Alberta.

Nursing was truly Louise’s calling. A dedicated Registered Nurse and a 1968 graduate of Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, she had a deep love for caring for others and devoted her life to helping people in need. Throughout her career she also worked with the Red Cross, frequently accepting remote assignments in places like Blue River, where she served as the community’s sole medical provider—acting as nurse, doctor, and pharmacist all in one.

Her compassion extended beyond people—animals were even the recipients of her skilled and gentle care as well. In remote communities without access to a veterinarian, she was known for suturing a pot-bellied pig, catheterizing a dog, and removing countless porcupine quills and fishing hooks from beloved pets.

Louise continued nursing for decades and only retired ten years ago, after spending the final 15 years of her career caring for patients at the Vulcan Hospital.

There was no limit to Louise’s generous spirit. She lovingly made and gifted many handmade items and quilts to family and friends. She also had a passion for cooking and baking and loved sharing recipes and trying new ones. Cooking was her love language. There was always room for one more at the table, and no one ever left hungry—or without a Tupperware container filled with leftovers. Everyone knew the rule: if you returned the container, she would happily fill it again. Louise never lost track of her Tupperware!

Louise will be remembered for her kindness, her warm smile, and the way she made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Her generous spirit, warm kitchen, and deep love for family created countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and love will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Vulcan Hospital Auxiliary in Louise’s memory.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on May 23 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at 232 Willow Road.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vulcan Hospital for their support and compassionate care over the past 6 weeks.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

William (Bill) Ross Ferguson passed away peacefully on Feb. 15,2026 at the age of 83, surrounded by family at the Vulcan Hospital.

Bill was born in Vulcan, AB on September 14,1942 to Archie and Helen Ferguson. He was raised and spent the majority of his life in Vulcan County. Bill met the love of his life, Bettejean Marie Clark in May 1962 at the Little Britches Rodeo in High River. Bill and Jean were married February 14,1964 and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary the day before Bill’s passing.

Bill and Jean started their life together in Whitecourt before moving back to the Ensign area where Bill drove school bus and eventually began his career with Alberta Wheat Pool. While with Alberta Wheat Pool, he worked in Ensign, Fort MacLeod, Brant and finished his career at Agricore United Agro Centre in High River. Along with working full time, Bill raised livestock, ran a grain farm and in his late 70’s started a trucking company, Punkin Center Ventures, where he employed seasonal truck drivers and enjoyed driving truck himself until his health no longer permitted him to in his early 80’s.

Bill was quite a handyman and there were not many projects he wouldn’t take on when it came to carpentry and mechanics. His biggest accomplishment being building the house on the farm that he and Jean have called home since 1979, the home where they raised their four children, one that holds many cherished memories.

Winters in Arizona and summers camping in the mountains brought many fun adventures on the razor for Bill. His off-road adventures were not for the faint of heart, as Bill was not afraid to choose the road less travelled and no hill was too steep or path too close to the cliff’s edge for him. He made a lot of great memories taking friends and family on these journeys. Another love of Bill’s were his dogs and his horses. He was often seen with his dog riding along in the truck or on the razor and he enjoyed working with horses, breaking them to drive. In his later years, Bill took an interest in 3D printing and also purchased a sawmill, so could always be found working on a new project. His problem-solving skills and determination were something to be admired.

Family was very important to Bill. He loved spending time with his grandkids and taking them along to be a part of his shenanigans. Grandpa was a wealth of knowledge and a true example of grit and determination, with a bit of mischief mixed in to keep things fun. He also always enjoyed a good prank or joke which kept everyone on their toes. He always made it known that he was very proud of his kids and grandkids and how they all grew up to be good, hard-working people. The time he spent with his grandkids played a very large part in this and he leaves a legacy of love behind. Bill loved to chat and share stories with everyone he crossed paths with. He had MANY stories, so many that he wrote a book about them, which will be cherished by anyone who has the privilege of reading it for years to come. When his book was complete, he printed copies for each of his family members and close friends.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Helen Ferguson, his father-in-law, Jim Clark and mother-in-law, Beth Clark and is survived by one brother and three sisters. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife Jean, children Jim (Bonnie) Ferguson, Cathy (Grant) Massey, Sherry (Dan) Kunkel, Debbie (Clark) Williams, grandchildren Jessica (Colin) Knapp, Tyler (Amira) Ferguson, Melissa (Steve) Perry, Cameron (Jasmyn) Massey, Jarod (Sierra) Massey, Blaine Kunkel, William (Jodi) Kunkel, Dustin (Hayley) Kunkel, Stephanie Kunkel, Taylor (Ben) Hartung, Brett Williams, great grandchildren Everleigh Massey, Tyler and Nikki Perry, Paisley, Maddison and Sadie Massey, Iyla, Brynlee and Weston Knapp, Mariska and Anna Squire, and Linden Hartung.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at 1:30pm at the Vulcan Evangelical Missionary Church, Vulcan, AB.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vulcan County Health & Wellness Foundation-palliative care project, in memory of Bill. Bill’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Vulcan Hospital for the amazing care given to Bill while in their care.
