It is with great sadness that I announce I’ve closed the studio permanently. After being closed longer than I was open and unable to satisfy the 6foot bubble around the mats with no end in sight 😞 Thank you to everyone for all your love and support!!! I wish you all love, light, health and happiness. PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL. For yoga, please consider taking your practice to the Yoga Barn in Hanover.. Jen, Nicole and Vanessa are all teaching there and they’d love to see you. Stay safe everyone and never be afraid to follow your dreams xo

Yoga is so much more than a physical practice :)

Hi everyone I’ve had to cancel all classes for tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience:(

Hi everyone: Thank you so much for your patience. As some of you know, I was job hunting the last few weeks and couldn't commit to a schedule until I knew what was happening. I'm happy and relieved to say I have found a position and will be starting Monday. As my other profession is accounting and we're in tax season, I've had to scale back our offerings until the craziness ends and my schedule becomes flexible again. As a result, we're down to 68 classes in February. Our other instructors are sticking with their classes, with exception to Nicole who will no longer be teaching early morning during the week.
We are now offering a 30 minute gentle flow class every morning - Monday to Friday. A great way to start the day!
The February schedule is now posted and available on our homepage on our website (www.samavayoga.ca), the booking site is updated as well (www.samavayoga.as.me/). Schedule will be posted momentarily in our Facebook group page and the journalling prompts pages will go up there today as well.
Thank you again for all the love and support everyone has shown as I go through this new transition :) I love you guys! See you all on the mat! Rhonda xo

Hi everyone: we’re closing the studio for today. The tea and talk has been rescheduled to next Saturday after the Psoas session. I’m updating the event to reflect the change. Sorry for the inconvenience but with people travelling it was decided that this was the safest course of action. Hoping everyone has a lovely, safe and warm day xo

Our story started a few years ago.. a wish to give back, to share the amazing experience that had come into my life. Hi, I’m Rhonda Waechter - the owner of Samava Yoga Studio. Like most, I came into my yoga practice through a life experience - two life experiences actually. First a huge geographical move got me started, and then later, a traumatic experience that left me extremely shaken. Yoga became a life line - something I could count on, a place where I could release frustration and anger, fear and sadness - time on my mat let me release all the negativity and replace it with peace, love, serenity, kindness and happiness.
Who would have known that in a short space of time.. one hour to be exact -- my whole outlook would shift, stress was relieved, I was softer, calmer, grounded, happier. Not just once or twice, but every single time I found my mat. And so, I continued to practice and experience the same feelings, and more.. my posture improved, my flexibility increased, my whole being - emotionally, spiritually, physically - just felt better.
Once you find the physical practice of yoga (the asanas,) you start to dig deeper into the yogic philosophy. There’s so much more than just the physical practice. It’s a way of life. One that I’m still learning about and slowly incorporating into my life.
In 2015 a friend suggested that I become an instructor. It was a few more years before that little seed grew.. and in 2017, I knew it was time. Yoga had changed and improve my life, and I wanted to share that gift with others. In 2018 I started the journey to become a certified instructor and in 2019, an opportunity to open my own studio came about. After searching for the right spot, I found a diamond in the rough, right on main street. On October 12, 2019 the doors officially opened.
Let me take you on a tour... we have a little store in the front, a place to browse and purchase yoga props to support your practice at home. We have teas and gemstones, clothing and journals, jewelry and body stuff. You can pick up a schedule and book online at home, or set up and pay for your class times right in the shop. We offer gift cards, e-gift cards, and gift wrapping if you need. Never been to a yoga class before? I get it, I first learned by attending a yoga basics class and I’m so grateful that I did -- so I’ve designed a two class beginner yoga 101 course to help you learn and you can be sure you’ve got the basics covered - breathing, alignment, postures, a little bit of history, and best of all, confidence to go into a yoga class knowing what to expect and get the most of your first experiences.
The studio space is behind the store front, through a hallway where you can leave your shoes and coat. The studio is large enough to facilitate 12 students and the instructor. Minimalist in design, a white space - pure and calm. All mats, props and blankets are provided. Our props include eye pillows, straps, blankets, bolsters, blocks and neck rolls. We don’t have mirrors so you can be comfortable. We’re a space of no judgement. I know that sometimes we are our harshest critics and so the space was designed to help eliminate that. Feel your way through your practice not get caught up on how you look or how you might compare to others - after all, that’s not what yoga is about - but sometimes competition or ego can enter and that’s not healthy or safe in a yoga class. All of our instructors are happy to provide assists and modifications for all poses so that you’re aligned and supported. We have cards for each student so you can decide if you’d like assists or not, change your mind halfway through - no worries, just flip the card. When the end of the class comes and savasana is over - no need to lose your floaty, zen-like state - we take care of all the cleanup.
To continue the tour, head through a hallway and you’ll find a bathroom where you can wash your hands with organic hand wash both scented and unscented depending on your preference. Just past the bathroom is a kitchenette and lounge area. We are in compliance with Public Health so you can be assured that we take your health and safety very seriously. All of our dishes are washed in an approved sanitizing dishwasher. We use eco-friendly products from Terra20 for all our cleaning of the space and B Mat cleaner for our mats.
At the very end of our space we have a lounge, with three sofas, lamps and soon a tv. We do have free wi-fi, please ask us for the password as we don’t advertise it. The lounge space is multi-purpose. Stay after class and enjoy one of the two featured SimonSteeps tea’s we’re offering (they change every month,) other teas are available. Or perhaps you’re there to listen to a guest speaker, or participate in our quarterly book club -- which is so much more than a typical book club session. Maybe you’ll be on the sofa to watch a documentary or listen to a podcast. Or maybe you’re playing the transformation game that we have. You could be there for a private Reiki session (coming in December.)
Samava Yoga Studio has been created as a safe space, a haven for people to come together as a community - for yoga practice and so much more. A space that is open and welcoming, accepting and honouring of each and every person that comes through our doors.
We are always looking for suggestions and guidance on how we can make our space better for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out through Facebook or email or our website or messenger or instagram or by phone or even snail mail - we’d love to hear from you and welcome all messages. We just ask that you be kind.
Thank you for taking the time to read about us, we hope you’ll visit us soon.
