I will say this over and over, our bodies know the jobs they have to do. Yes at times we overstimulate them, we feed them things they shouldn’t have, and we don’t give them as much rest as the require.

Cortisol is your body’s main stress hormone. It’s helpful in short bursts (like when you need energy or focus), but when it stays high for long periods, it can start working against your health.

Signs cortisol may be running too high:

Things I no longer do as a Wellness RN 👩‍⚕️✨

After 15 years in healthcare, I started realizing how many everyday habits quietly work against our health. So I changed a few things.

Things I don’t do anymore:
❌ Use toxic cleaning or personal care products
❌ Cook with seed oils
❌ Ignore food labels
❌ Chase quick fixes for my health
❌ Glorify being “busy” while running on empty

Instead, I focus on the basics: real food, simple ingredients, a calmer lifestyle, and supporting the body the way it was designed to function.

Health isn’t built from hacks.
It’s built from daily choices.

Let’s be honest…there is so much information on all the health things we could be doing that it gets complicated.

So let’s get back to the basics of health:
1) Eating real food- with real nutrients is better than taking 10 different vitamins
2) Having a routine sleep schedule (yes even for adults) will help your body heal, reset, and improve your energy. No thinking you can get by with 5-6 hours- your body needs 8-9 of good sleep to be at its best.
3) Reduce the noise- you don’t always have to be busy, scheduled to the end of time, always on your phone. Take time to settle down, read a book, have a bath, or just be away from screens.

Our bodies are smart. We don’t give them enough credit for what they do for us.

Detoxing is something our body can do without fancy powders, supplements or cleanses. It just needs to be supported.

When you support the basics of your bodies detox centres with simple breathing techniques, filtered water, gentle moment, real foods (washed in baking soda to ensure chemical removal), and prioritizing rest, your body can function and remove excess waste much easier.

You’re worth it!

Aging is something that not only the person who is aging finds difficult but also family caring for them.

There are many ways you can help support those at home or even in LTC.

Make sure they have a safe environment, minimize tripping hazards, ensure good lighting, grab bars and device to get a hold of someone if needed.

Let them be independent in every area they can be. Keeping independence in any small regard helps.

Book an appointment with me for private home care- whether that be a physical assessment, doing exercises, follow up post hospital stay, foot care, or supporting their mental health with companion visits.

It’s been a week…and it’s only Wednesday so tonight it’s breakfast for supper. This is my go too when I’m feeling lazy but want something that’s still healthy.

Here’s your recipe for guilt free French Toast:

1 loaf of thick sliced bread 🍞
1 dozen eggs 🥚
1 1/2 cups milk 🥛 or water 💧
1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt (hidden secret no one can taste, yet adds more protein)
2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp pure maple syrup
Sprinkle of cinnamon (cinnamon helps with blood sugar balance for everyone)

Whisk all ingredients together in a large bowl and soak bread until egg mixture has absorbed well into bread. Cook on griddle at 350 until golden brown on each side and bread has puffed up.

Serve hot with pure maple syrup 🍁, honey 🍯, or berry compote 🫐🍓. Enjoy!

P.S. this freezes great if you’ve made too much and can pop in the toaster for a quick breakfast later!
