Does December ever go to plan when you have young children?
đ¤ Here we are again, just a few days before Christmas: two sick kids, movies and Motrin on repeat, and me and my husband trying to squeeze in the last hours of work we need to wrap for the year.
This is not what I planned for this week. I had a list. I had last minute errands. I had a vision of seeing holiday lights and tobogganing as a family - as a healthy family!
But hereâs what Iâm learning, again, because I apparently need to keep learning this lesson: I canât control this. I canât make them healthy for Christmas. I canât force the week to go according to plan.
â
I CAN surrender to what is. I can show up for whatâs in front of me. I can let go of the fantasy version of âgetting ready for the holidaysâ and accept the reality of movies, Motrin, and doing what we can from the couch. Itâs cozy, and the vibe is still vibing. I can be grateful for all we have and work to let go of perfection.
This is parenting. The plans fall apart. The kids get sick at the worst possible time. The week you need to be productive becomes a week of survival mode.
And somehow, we make it work (because we have no choice đĽ´). We adjust. We let go. We find the pockets of peace in the mess.
If your December isnât going according to plan eitherâŚsolidarity. Weâre all just doing our best with the cards weâve been dealt.
⨠Wishing health to all the families navigating sick kids this week. May the meds work quickly (and may they not fight you to take them!!) and may the screen time guilt be lowđ
