Does December ever go to plan when you have young children?

🤒 Here we are again, just a few days before Christmas: two sick kids, movies and Motrin on repeat, and me and my husband trying to squeeze in the last hours of work we need to wrap for the year.

This is not what I planned for this week. I had a list. I had last minute errands. I had a vision of seeing holiday lights and tobogganing as a family - as a healthy family!

But here’s what I’m learning, again, because I apparently need to keep learning this lesson: I can’t control this. I can’t make them healthy for Christmas. I can’t force the week to go according to plan.

✅ I CAN surrender to what is. I can show up for what’s in front of me. I can let go of the fantasy version of “getting ready for the holidays” and accept the reality of movies, Motrin, and doing what we can from the couch. It’s cozy, and the vibe is still vibing. I can be grateful for all we have and work to let go of perfection.

This is parenting. The plans fall apart. The kids get sick at the worst possible time. The week you need to be productive becomes a week of survival mode.

And somehow, we make it work (because we have no choice 🥴). We adjust. We let go. We find the pockets of peace in the mess.

If your December isn’t going according to plan either…solidarity. We’re all just doing our best with the cards we’ve been dealt.

✨ Wishing health to all the families navigating sick kids this week. May the meds work quickly (and may they not fight you to take them!!) and may the screen time guilt be low💕

🎄 It’s that time of year again!

As a primarily virtual team spread across Canada - with some of us as far as England and Costa Rica, the WFP team has learned to be really intentional about opportunities to connect!

Our virtual holiday gathering is a beloved tradition - we really know how to make a virtual party 🔥🔥🔥

As a relatively new practice owner, these gatherings really drive home how special this incredible team really is🥹 I can’t help but feel so much gratitude for the work we do and the community we’ve built together.

✨Looking forward to another year of supporting parents as they build whole, thriving family systems for generations to come!

“So, when are you having kids?” 💔 The infertility journey can be so isolating, and it can feel like a constant navigation of triggering moments, because those who haven’t been in your shoes can’t ever really understand. Safe spaces where you can trust others around you will understand without explanation are GOLD.

🌱 This is why we created our (In)Fertility Support Group for women experiencing primary infertility. We are timing this group so that you are well supported through the holiday season - because struggling in this way, amidst the “joyful” holiday season, can feel especially lonely and difficult.

📅 This 8 week closed virtual group will meet on Monday evenings from 7-8:30pm starting November 24th - come as you are, cozy drink and comfy clothes encouraged. Open to all residents of Ontario.

✨ Join Britni Chambers, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist with extensive training and certification in reproductive trauma and perinatal mental health - and a human who has been in your shoes.

A therapist-led group offers a unique level of safety - our clients have shared that sometimes, without the right professional holding the space, groups can go sideways when tackling tricky topics - safety is a prerequisite for the magic of group therapy to unfold.

Whether you’re facing unexplained infertility, failed treatments, grieving loss, or sitting with the exhausting question of “why am I not getting pregnant?” - you deserve to be truly seen, and feel less alone.

🎢 Parenting is a wild ride - unprecedented times aside. But wow, today’s parents really haven’t had things come easy. We continue to hear daily from clients (and family and friends!) about how much strain families are under. Our world is in a hard place, and parents are under more pressure than ever to live up to unrealistic standards...and it’s not just making us feel overwhelmed - for many, it’s tipping us over into a disconnected, frozen state.

You’re not alone, if you don’t know how to put one foot in front of the other - but what we do know - and what has always been true - is that we don’t heal in isolation. We need connection more than ever. We need respite from the horrors on our news feed, we need breaks from overstimulation and we need HELP. If you have one scrap of mental energy - use it to get intentional about being in relationship with someone safe.

Therapy may not be able to change your situation or the world events unfolding around us - but therapy can help change your relationship to your stress - it can offer a safe, connected place where you get to bring the weight on your shoulders and put it down temporarily. Therapy can offer strategies to manage your distress differently. Therapy can offer tools to help you support your worried or stressed child, or to help you better understand what your baby needs from you right now to thrive.

You’re not alone if things are harder than you imagined, and you deserve to have someone to nurture you and your needs - so you can keep holding all that you do 💕

Book your FREE consult today and see how we can help. **Limited sliding scale & reduced rate services are available!

Fertility Matters is leading fertility advocacy work which has secured Canada’s first federal commitment to fund up to $20k for IVF, making treatment more accessible for families across the country. “So, when are you having kids?” 💔 The holiday season will be here before we know it, and with this season comes family gatherings, pregnancy announcements, and that insensitive, gut punch of a question about when it will be your turn.

❄️🎄 The “most wonderful time” can feel like the loneliest for folks struggling to conceive.

We see you. We’ve been in your shoes - and while the holidays might feel far away right now - we want to set you up now to feel supported and seen during that time.

🌱Our (In)Fertility Support Group starts November 24th - we will meet together throughout the holiday season - and co-create an anchor that will ground you during the holiday season.

Maybe you are just coming to the show for the cute baby gear, and we support your decision! But we are always happy when parents and parents-to-be stop by our booth and chat with us about maternal and paternal mental health.

Often we meet clients of the clinic, we excitedly share that they “see so and so” and express gratitude. At theW2W show we also have really important dialogues around what to expect postpartum, how to be a team with your partner, and how important specialized mental health services are in this time of massive transition.

We love to encourage folks to add mental health check-up to their postpartum planning - and hold space for the parents coming by who get watery eyed and tell us they really feel seen, and nod sharing that it’s so much harder than they expected.

We’re here for it all, and will talk about parent’s wellbeing until someone makes us stop - parents are the foundation of families - and they need to be nurtured and tended to in order to thrive💕

We also will have draws and prizes and swag, so don’t be a stranger, come say hello!

See you soon!

✨Welcome Amber!

We are SO excited to welcome Amber Rutherford, MSW, RSW to the WFP team!

Amber has been such a natural addition to our collective - she’s warm, authentic, and has this incredible ability to make parents feel instantly understood. What we love most about Amber is how she combines her extensive clinical training with such genuine relatability - she gets the messy, overwhelming parts of parenting because she’s lived them too.

Amber brings a playful energy to her work (hello, play therapy training!) while tackling some of the heaviest stuff parents face. She’s the therapist who will help you trust your gut when everyone else is giving you conflicting advice, and who truly believes that humor and compassion can coexist with healing.

As a fellow parent navigating the beautiful chaos, Amber understands that parenting has a way of bringing up ALL our stuff - and she’s here to help you work through it with kindness toward yourself.

We’re beyond lucky to have found someone who shares our values around supporting parents exactly where they’re at. Amber is going to be such an incredible addition to the support we can offer families!

‼️OUR NEXT GROUP STARTS SOON and we have only 3 seats remaining ‼️

✨If you’re on the fence about group therapy, we hope you’ll take the leap and join us! We get incredible feedback from our group moms - they’re always so glad they joined.

✨Motherhood is a team sport! We crave connection and long to feel understood - but we don’t always know how to get the SAFE authentic connections we desire.

✨Whether you are in your first postpartum or fifth, this season is tender, and having a proper village has become hard in our society, but it’s essential!

✨Part of why creating a village can feel challenging, comes down to the intensive parenting values deeply instilled in our generation - parenting is full of taboo topics and open “mom groups” on the internet feel unsafe to many for fear of judgement and negativity.

✨We created the Village Postpartum group out of our own desires - what we wish we’d had in the postpartum stage ourselves. And because we know the delicate landscape of parenting first hand, we know how beneficial it is to have a trained therapist guiding and mediating to ensure safety amongst group members.

✨And we know you want more than to vent - we know you want ideas and support to move THROUGH your pain and struggles, to find ways to cope and manage with the tricky stuff that comes with early parenting.

✨We know you crave feeling less alone, to be seen and understood. You. Need. A. Village.

✨We’d love to have you join us💕

🗓️The next group starts SOON on Wednesday October 1st - don’t miss out!!
