When emotions escalate, language and reasoning temporarily go offline.
It’s not defiance; it’s a nervous system under stress.

Gentle pacing, fewer words, and predictable support help children return to regulation. Harsh questions or lectures only add pressure.

Support first. Skills come later. ❤️

This week, we’re celebrating Emma, a dedicated Supervised Behaviour Therapist who brings enthusiasm, knowledge, and positivity to her work with children and families. Emma holds a research-intensive Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Waterloo.

Emma has experience supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, FASD, and Hydrocephalus, and has worked across ABA, respite care, and early childhood education. She has also volunteered with local speech-language pathologists, further strengthening her understanding of communication and child development.

Emma’s goal is to one day become dual-certified as a Speech-Language Pathologist and a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. She brings fun, motivation, and a warm, collaborative energy to each session, always focused on creating meaningful outcomes for every child and family.

Our interprofessional collaborative practice makes us stronger and is better for our team, our clients, and the quality of care we provide.

We’re so glad to have Emma on the Elemenoe team!

Big feelings can feel huge for little humans (and sometimes for us too!). 🌪️

With my 3-year-old, I start by acknowledging the feeling, because every feeling deserves to be seen. Then, I bring him into the present using little tunes. 🎵

I tweak familiar songs to match our environment and the moment, helping him regulate while still feeling heard. (I've always got a few rhymes or tunes ready to go in my back pocket).

It’s a mix of validation, connection, and gentle guidance, not erasing feelings, just meeting them where they are. ❤️

This week, we’re celebrating Katy, a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) who brings deep expertise, compassion, and over 10 years of experience to her work with clients and families. Katy holds a Master of Arts in Behaviour Analysis from Ball State University and truly enjoys supporting clients as they build new skills and grow in confidence.

Katy is especially passionate about honouring how a client may be feeling on any given day and teaching safe, meaningful ways to communicate those emotions. By supporting emotional expression alongside skill development, she helps clients be more available for learning and long-term growth. Outside of the clinic, Katy enjoys spending time outdoors and going on adventures with her daughter.

Our interprofessional collaborative practice makes us stronger and is better for our team, our clients, and the quality of care we provide.

We’re so glad to have Katy as part of the Elemenoe team.

Motherhood is hard. Parenting a neurodivergent child? That's a whole different level.

If you're feeling behind on emails, appointments, forms, that's not a personal failure. That's the reality of what you're carrying.

We recently sat down with Julie M. Green, author of Motherness, about what real support looks like for parents. Spoiler: it's not bubble baths. It's about protecting your capacity so you can keep showing up.

In this post, we're talking about what self-care actually means when you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and doing your best. Plus, how to be the village that parents need.

2016: We first met. Brittany was 5 years into her SLP career and pregnant with her first daughter. Shawna had just become a BCBA and was enjoying married life.

If we could tell 2016 us what was coming, we wouldn’t have believed it.

Now: We’re building Elemenoe together. Interdisciplinary. Neuro-affirming. Real.

Still learning. Still growing. Exactly where we wanted to be.

If your kid has been saying “I don’t want to go to school” lately, you’re not alone.

Back-to-routine can feel like whiplash. A reminder we keep coming back to: you can validate the feeling without changing the plan.

If you want a simple starting point for tomorrow:

Validate. Make the day predictable. Add some small “together time” to come home to.

What’s the hardest part for your family right now, mornings, drop-off, after school, bedtime? Drop us a comment below 👇🏼

2026. We just added some incredible new sensory treasures to our rooms.

At Elemenoe, we believe every child deserves an environment that honours who they are. Our new spaces are designed with one thing in mind: creating places where kids can explore, regulate, and just be.

A climbing rainbow for movement and joy. Lights that spark wonder. Textures that invite touch. These aren’t just pretty additions, they’re invitations for every child to find what helps them feel calm, confident, and connected.

Because the best therapy happens when kids feel safe enough to show up as themselves. ♥️

We ♥️ for high quality, durable, joyful sensory items!
