According to public health experts, it’s time to get back to basics…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"With the COVID-19 infection rate rising again across Ontario, we want to stress the importance of being extra careful while you are in treatment with us,” says Nicole Condon, TRIO’s Chief Operating Officer. "Please remember, if you become infected during treatment, your cycle will be cancelled creating extra stress, upset and disappointment for you on top of a COVID infection,” she continued. According to public health experts, it’s time to get back to basics: you’re less likely to get infected if you practise strict social distancing, wear a mask outside your home, practise good hand hygiene with sanitizers and frequent hand washing, and keep your social circle small, sticking to 10 people or less.

With students and teachers returning to school, many members of our TRIO community are concerned.
However, I have some good news that is relevant to our patients. A brand new study, by doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital (Ernesto Figueiro-Filho and Dan Farine), reviewed 10,996 pregnant patients around the world and concluded “pregnancy is NOT a risk factor for COVID-19.” Very simply, this means if you are pregnant, your risks of getting COVID-19 and outcomes, should you catch the infection, are like the general population. Despite this news, of course, you should continue to take all the necessary precautions outlined by public health to ensure you do not become infected with COVID-19.

At TRIO, safety and security are a primary focus. Our IVF lab has a sophisticated system in place to ensure that all eggs and all s***m are accounted for all of the time. Because we are so mindful of security, and to give you additional peace of mind, TRIO has added a new enhancement to the security already in place in our lab.

It’s the latest in electronic scanning technology, and it adds an additional layer of safety to an already extremely secure system. It’s called Gidget and it delivers electronic barcode labelling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every sample of reproductive material is assigned a unique digital code that is linked back to an individual patient and every process step. It adds a layer of electronic scanning to the process of human observation by two embryologists. Essentially, it adds a third layer of security. Gidget observes every movement each time a lab specialist prepares to move or combine your reproductive materials. This barcode scanning device confirms proper identification of all samples.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gidget tracks every step. Each stage of the ART process is accounted for and must be carried out precisely. With Gidget, your reproductive material is always identifiable and securely tracked throughout the ART process.

There are no tests for egg quality. ⠀

HOWEVER. ⠀

Since a healthy egg is responsible for:⠀

• making estrogen, which grows your lining (thick or thin? Heavy period or light?) ⠀

• and ovulation (estrogen triggers an LH surge) ⠀

• and the health of the corpus luteum, which makes progesterone...⠀

We can see signs and symptoms of egg quality through the other hormones, periods, and fertility. ⠀

So I’d say we can actually have a pretty good idea of what’s happening, if we listen. ⠀

At TRIO we are working on improving the fertility experience for all patients.

With June being Pride Month we would like to share what we are doing to create a safe space both within our clinics and online for LGBT2Q+ patients.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to become more inclusive in both our language and behaviour, TRIO has engaged consultants Gab and Amanda to provide training for all staff and consulting for the clinic. This training is aimed at educating our team so we can provide care with more understanding and create a safe space that is inclusive and sensitive to the specific needs of the LGBT2Q+ community. Our staff has completed the first training session and we are looking forward to our second workshop later this month.

Online, we are working on updating our site, blogs and other resources and we are planning content to represent all of our patients and the many different pathways they may take to build their families.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Please reach out to us by email or direct message if you have any questions about the changes we are making.
We wish everyone a safe and happy Pride Month.

As we open our clinic to patients again, we want to remind everyone that taking all precautions possible to prevent a COVID infection during your treatment is very important. This includes continuing to stay home as much as possible, following the principles of social distancing and hand hygiene, and wearing a mask outside of the home at all times. We don’t want you to take any unnecessary risks that could affect your treatment.

A message from Dr. Ken Cadesky, Medical Director and Founding Partner
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"It is vitally important that you are completely honest even to the point of being overly cautious during your screening at TRIO. We are relying on you to tell us if you have a fever or any other symptoms of COVID-19, or if you suspect that you’ve been in contact with anyone who is infected.

We know how much everyone wants treatment. But we want to emphasize that if an infected person comes into the clinic and one of our staff or patients get sick, the result could be another closure. This would, of course, have a profound effect on our ability to continue treatment, including on-going cycles which may have to be cancelled or shut down. This would be disastrous for everyone. So, we are relying on the goodwill and honesty of all of our patients.

We know you are good people and we know you’ll do the right thing."
