The Village at University Gates

A vibrant community offering both Long-Term Care and Retirement Living, home to over 500 residents.

We proudly share our space beside the Research Institution for Ageing. The Village at University Gates is a long term care home located in Waterloo with a unique partnership with the Research Institute for Aging (RIA), The University of Waterloo, and Conestoga College. We believe in resident centred care with a strong emphasis on the residents needs and desires. Our partnership with research and education helps us to provide the most innovative care to our residents.

We were proud to welcome SHSM students from Glenview Park Secondary School to our Village for a meaningful Sector Partner Experience.

Throughout the day, students explored both the design and lived experience of long-term care and retirement, engaging in thoughtful conversations that truly brought Village life to life. The experience concluded with an ICE creative challenge, where students shared innovative ideas for future programming.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed connecting with the students, hearing their ideas, and sharing their own experiences. Our team has already been inspired to build on the creativity and insights that were shared.

Moments like these highlight the power of intergenerational connection and the value of learning from one another.

Yesterday, we brought the fun indoors and turned University Gates into an Easter wonderland! 🐣🌸

The kids had a wonderful time running around, while our residents enjoyed sitting back and watching all the excitement and joy unfold.

We also held our Easter Egg Drop event, and although we don’t have photos to share, it was so much fun seeing the different creative designs each neighbourhood came up with to protect their egg!

A big congratulations to the Matthews, Po***ck, Downey, Hagey, Egerton, Williamsburg, Becker, and Ailsa Craig neighbourhoods
—and better luck next year to the other neighbourhoods!

A big thank you as well to everyone from the Laurelwood community for partnering with us again and joining in the celebration.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day Fun at University Gates! 🍀

What a wonderful day celebrating St. Patrick’s Day across our Village!

Residents in both Long-Term Care and Retirement enjoyed festive socials filled with music, laughter, and great company. Of course, no celebration would be complete without some delicious green drinks (our version of Shamrock shakes!) to add a little extra fun to the day.

It was so nice to see everyone dressed in green, smiling, and enjoying time together. Days like this truly highlight the spirit of our University Gates community.

Yesterday we had so much fun hosting a wine tasting in the Ruby 🍷 We were joined by so many of our wonderful Neighbours Club members and Enzo from Colio Winery. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it such a special afternoon — we’re already looking forward to the next one! ✨

What an amazing day we had yesterday! We were honoured to host the West Schlegel Olympics here at University Gates. The day was filled with friendly competition, lots of laughter, and wonderful community spirit. Thank you to everyone who came to our Village to join us and help make it such an unforgettable day.

💙 Thank You, University Gates Community! 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Main Street this Wednesday for our Alzheimer’s Coffee Break. All donations went directly to the Alzheimer’s Society, and together we raised $393.85 in support of this important cause.

Thank you as well to Tim Hortons for providing the coffee, hot chocolate, and Timbits that helped make the morning such a success.

We truly appreciate everyone’s support and participation. ☕💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open House today at University Gates. It was such a joy to see residents coming together, sharing laughter, catching up with friends, and welcoming one another in the spirit of community.

Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, festive drinks, and wonderful live entertainment, all while filling the space with great conversation and holiday cheer. Moments like these truly capture what makes life at University Gates so special.

Thank you for making today such a memorable and heart-warming celebration—we’re already looking forward to the next time we gather together!
