Big feelings can feel overwhelming for young kids, especially during busy routines or unexpected changes. Having a calm, predictable space at home can help children reset their bodies and emotions when things feel too big.

Swipe to learn how to:

😌 Choose a quiet, cozy spot that supports regulation
😌 Include sensory tools, comfort items, and calming visuals
😌 Teach kids how to use the space before big emotions show up
😌 Create a comforting routine that helps them return to their calm

When we offer children a safe place to pause and breathe, we teach them that their feelings are manageable and that they’re never alone in the process. A simple, thoughtfully created calm corner can make everyday challenges feel much more doable. 💛

Today, we proudly wear pink in support of Pink Shirt Day. A movement that began in 2007 when two Canadian students stood up for a classmate who was bullied for wearing pink, sparking a global call for kindness and inclusion.

Pink Shirt Day continues to remind us that small acts of solidarity can create lasting change. Bullying affects young people across Canada, and local supports play an important role in building safer, more compassionate communities.

In Waterloo Region and Wellington County, organizations like CMHA Waterloo Wellington offer youth‑focused mental‑health programming, including YouthTALK, which helps young people lead peer‑driven mental‑health and anti‑stigma initiatives. They also help operate The Grove Youth Wellness Hubs (The Grove Hubs) which provide walk‑in access to mental‑health, crisis, housing, and social services across Guelph and Wellington.

This year, our team is embracing the message of kindness and community together. Last Sunday, a KidsAbility group attended the KW Titans game, showing up in their pink shirts to champion respect, belonging, and support - on and off the court.

As we share these photos, we celebrate the power of standing up, speaking out, and choosing kindness every day. 💗🩷💖💝💘💓

For anyone experiencing or witnessing bullying, the National Pink Shirt Day Resource Centre (www.pinkshirtday.ca/resources) offers guidance on youth support, cyberbullying, and tools for parents and educators.

One of our favourite days of the year is sharing a heartfelt thank you to Nicole Guse! 💛🖤

Guse Productions' Sounds of Christmas and Sentimental Journey bring magic, music, and meaning to our community year after year! The musicals are a local favourite with so many, but you may not know they are family-inspired.

Nicole's personal journey with KidsAbility started many years ago when her son Josh recieved speech therapy services as a toddler and graduated from KidsAbility School's JK program. From those early days to now, Nicole remains committed to producing, directing and singing with her family and other professional musicians in these yearly seasonal musical productions.

Recently, Nicole and her family donated an outstanding $40,000 from portions of every ticket from both productions to make lasting change possible for the children, youth and families we serve!

Thank you so much, Nicole!

Happy World Rotary Day!

Today, we celebrate the incredible impact Rotary has had on KidsAbility since 1957.

What started with a single building purchased by local Rotarians has grown into four main sites and travelling teams serving children, youth, and families across Waterloo Region and Wellington County. That growth, and the thousands of lives changed along the way, would not be possible without Rotary’s unwavering belief in accessible care and community support.

To all the Rotary clubs who continue to champion inclusion, possibility, and brighter futures for our clients - thank you. Your dedication strengthens our mission every day.

A special thank you to our local clubs:
🔹 Kitchener Rotary
🔹 Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora
🔹 Rotary Waterloo
🔹 Rotaract Club of Waterloo Region
🔹 Rotary Club of Kitchener-Westmount
🔹 Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River
🔹 Rotary Club of Guelph
🔹 Rotary Club of Guelph South
🔹 Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium
🔹 Rotaract Club of Guelph
🔹 Rotary Club of Cambridge (Preston & Hespeler)
🔹 Rotary Club of Kitchener Conestoga
🔹 Rotary Cambridge Sunrise
🔹 Rotary Club of Cambridge Sunset

Your commitment to children and families continues to shape our community for the better - today and every day. 💙

On Monday, February 2, the KW Titans visited our KidsAbility School in Waterloo — and what an amazing day it was! 💙🏀

As a not‑for‑profit professional basketball team, the Titans give so much back to our community, and we truly appreciate the time they dedicated to supporting KidsAbility.

Experiences like this make a real impact. From interacting with athletes - which builds confidence and encourages inclusion, to practicing teamwork and exploring movement in new ways, our kids had an absolute ball! The Titans brought incredible energy, kindness, and spirit, turning an ordinary school day into something truly extraordinary.

Thank you, Titans, for helping us create a stronger, more inclusive community and for making memories our kids won’t forget!

Young children are constantly growing into their emotions, their language, and their understanding of the world. As they learn to communicate, they depend on the adults around them to show them that their feelings, and their boundaries, matter. 💛

Swipe to learn how to:

🌿 Support children with simple, accessible ways to express themselves
🌿 Validate their emotions without minimizing or correcting
🌿 Model healthy communication in everyday moments
🌿 Respect their physical boundaries, including when they don’t want hugs or touch

When we slow down, listen closely, and honour their “no,” children feel safer and more confident sharing who they are. Small, consistent gestures teach them autonomy, trust, and emotional awareness, which are skills that carry into every stage of development.

Today, we’re celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day by spreading gratitude, connection, and a little extra love across our community. Kindness grows when it’s shared, and we’re lucky to live in communities filled with organizations that guide families, support children and youth, and inspire compassion,

We’ve shared information about a few incredible community partners doing meaningful work every day. We value their impact, and today we’re passing the kindness along by encouraging you to check them out too:

✨Waterloo Region Family Network - WRFN - Supporting families of children with special needs through peer‑driven guidance, connection, and lifelong support.
✨ House of Friendship - Providing vital food support, housing, addiction treatment, and neighbourhood programs for individuals and families across Waterloo Region.
✨ CMHA Waterloo Wellington - Offering full‑circle mental‑health, developmental, and substance‑use supports for all ages.
✨Guelph Community Health Centre - Delivering low‑barrier primary care, wraparound programs, and community supports for families.
✨ Family & Children's Services of Guelph and Wellington County - Providing protection, support, and resources to ensure children and youth grow up safe and supported.
✨Safe Families Canada Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge - Surrounding families in crisis with volunteer‑driven circles of care to reduce isolation and keep families safely together.

Kindness doesn’t have to be big! A smile, a message of encouragement, or a small gesture of support can change someone’s whole day. Let’s keep lifting one another up, today and every day. 💛
