21:53: Emergency services are experiencing delays due to heavy snowfall, drifting on roadways, and localized blizzard conditions. Countless vehicle accidents — even a fire engine, tow truck, and plow truck have gone off the road. Fire trucks in Halifax have been equipped with chains to improve traction. Plow trucks becoming stuck; one in Shelburne County with snow level with the cab. Vehicles stranded on many roadways.
Numerous transport trucks are stuck, jackknifed, or off the road, with some lodged in medians or overturned on their sides.
A fire truck responding to an incident in mainland Nova Scotia earlier described its bumper as functioning like a "snow plow" due to the heavy snow conditions.
Emergency crews are navigating through snow drifts up to four feet deep to reach calls on main roadways, often waiting for plow trucks to clear a path ahead. High snowfall rates continue in parts of the province, further delaying emergency response, particularly in rural areas.
Many volunteer firefighters simply unable to leave their properties to reach the fire department due to the conditions.
Nonessential travel should be avoided to ensure safety and allow emergency services to operate effectively.
In case of emergency, dial 9-1-1.
