December's Monthly Pick from Connecte Montreal Psychology is here!

Connecte clinical psychologist Dr. Lisa Linardatos invites us to listen to Exploring Grief in the Context of Body Trust, a podcast episode sharing remarkable conversation that offers fresh perspectives on the nature of grief as it relates to issues of body acceptance and ED recovery:

"I’m excited to share this podcast episode that has helped me to guide clients through the grief process as they work on body acceptance and eating disorder recovery.

In this podcast episode, hosts and therapists Dana, Hilary, and Sirius wade into the murky waters of grief, and what grief has to do with body acceptance and eating disorder recovery.

They discuss how in eating disorder recovery, clients are faced with potentially having to grieve the loss of community, the loss of feeling safer in their bodies, and the loss of attaining perceived acceptance and approval through the thin ideal. Through poignant stories of their own grief experiences, the hosts discuss grief as an emotion we’re often taught to avoid despite it being a common human experience that connects us to each other and our humanity. They also explain the whys and hows of the emotional processing of grief, and how to “ride the wave” vs. resist.

Enjoy!

Check out the latest blog from our archives! Connecte Montreal Psychology's clinical psychologist Dr. Alissa Rubinfeld offers an examination of ambivalence, from both a therapist's perspective and the client's experience, that looks at the many ways feelings of ambivalence can play out in therapy (and in life!) ☯

Ambivalence can make us feel torn between opposing thoughts or feelings. In the context of therapy, this is SO normal, but the experience can be preoccupying and exhausting!

October's Monthly pick from Connecte is here! Read on as Connecte Montreal Psychology clinical psychologist Dr Annélie S. Anestin introduces us to PASS Action, an innovative government resource for helping people getting back on their feet after a challenging time in their lives 🌱💚

Our August Pick is here! Connecte Montreal Psychology 's clinical psychologist Dr. Alissa Rubinfeld invites us in for some great conversation between therapists Grace Laumann and Janet Landsbury on eating disorders, healthy body image and what parents need to know, on Janet's very cool parenting podcast, Respectful Parenting: Janet Landsbury Unruffled:

"As a mom of two small kiddos, it can be overwhelming and confusing to know how to foster a healthy relationship with food. And as a psychologist, I've seen how early, maladaptive patterns can later get expressed in disordered ways. Of course, there are several factors, and I suspect that as a parent, one can't target them all perfectly, or even at all, e.g. genetic predisposition. But...I believe we CAN influence our children positively from the time that they are young. Janet Lansbury and her guest, Grace Lautman, engage in a nice discussion about prevention of eating disorders and about the various factors that can influence their onset or course. Enjoy!"

Check out Montreal Psychology Monthly Pick for July! Therapist and PhD Candidate Kayla Hollett's Pick introduces us to awesome ACT resources from Dr Jessica Borushok's YouTube channel The ACT Therapist :

"Dr. Jessica Borushok is a clinical psychologist who specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her YouTube Channel has several educational videos that help explain the main themes of ACT, from cognitive defusion to value-based action. She also has shared several other videos with insights for coping with common mental health problems (e.g., panic attacks).

Two videos I have enjoyed in particular are "What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT Explained)" and "How to Practice Acceptance: ACT Core Process". In the first video, Dr. Borushok provides a clear summary of what ACT is, which can be a helpful starting point for anyone who may be interested in this type of therapy. In the latter video, she offers an overview of what acceptance is and provides examples, which can be helpful for those learning to integrate acceptance into their daily life."

Hi, I'm Dr. Jessica. This channel provides accurate, helpful, and easy-to-understand educational videos about common mental health concerns and questions. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theacttherapist TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/ WORK WITH ME If you're an adult living in Ca...

Connecte Montreal Psychology therapist and PhD Candidate, Sara Matovic's When Guilt Leads Us to Abandon Ourselves is a beautiful and in-depth reflection on the complex nature of guilt and the ways we respond to it (hint: guilt is inherently not a "bad" thing!); the difference between healthy and unhealthy responses to feelings of guilt, and how we can repair and heal from chronic self-abandonment that may stem from those unhealthy responses over time🌱💚

Have you ever found yourself apologizing for simply needing something, even before you ask for it? Or saying yes when you want to say no? For many, guilt can drive us to abandon our own needs to preserve connection, avoid conflict, or maintain the image of being "good." a pattern that can leave us f...
