mouth taping… something i didn’t take seriously until i saw it up close in my own home 🤍
both of my kids were born with tongue & lip ties, something that can quietly impact so much more than just feeding. over time, i started noticing patterns… mouth breathing, restless sleep, dry lips, congestion, even changes in facial development.
here’s the part people don’t talk about enough 👇🏼
when we breathe through our mouth instead of our nose:
– the tongue drops from the roof of the mouth (where it’s meant to live)
– the jaw and palate don’t develop as optimally
– air isn’t filtered, warmed, or humidified properly
– we’re more prone to snoring, poor sleep quality & even behavioural impacts in kids
– it can contribute to forward head posture + tension patterns in the body
– dry mouth = increased risk of cavities + gum issues
nose breathing is foundational. it supports:
✨ proper oxygen exchange
✨ lymphatic flow (yes, even in the face + sinuses)
✨ nervous system regulation
✨ deeper, more restorative sleep
mouth taping (done safely + appropriately) is one simple tool that can help encourage nasal breathing at night. for adults, it can: - reduce snoring
– improve sleep quality
– support sinus drainage
– help you wake up feeling more rested
for kids, it’s not about taping right away, it’s about addressing the root:
tongue ties, oral posture, airway health, and breathing patterns.
this is something i’ve had to learn, unlearn, and advocate for as a parent, because mouth breathing isn’t just a habit… it’s often a sign the body needs support.
everything in the body is connected, even how you breathe 🤍
