Tapas 🔥 The Fire That Shapes Us 🔥

Yoga first called me through movement — the stretches, the breath, the flow. Asana was the practice that lit my fire. That fire led me deeper into other practices, helping me find peace and presence.

Yoga has taught me how to show up for myself, even when it’s hard. That’s what practicing Tapas is: moving through challenges, building strength, and growing through discomfort.

There are three kinds of Tapas — body, speech, and mind.

It’s holding a difficult pose, having a tough conversation, or finding calm in a chaotic moment. Tapas is the inner fire that helps us become stronger, wiser, and more resilient.

Tapas of the body has made me stronger — showing up, moving through resistance, honouring my strength.
Tapas of speech taught me to speak my truth and protect my peace — using my words with clarity and power.
Tapas of the mind reminds me to stay calm even when things heat up — choosing presence over reaction.

Tapas isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about burning brighter. It’s the fire that transforms us from the inside out.

This is Ignite: A Journey Through Tapas — a call to meet your fire with courage, and rise.

On September 11, Ryan and I hiked Panorama Ridge — 32 km in one day, 11 hours on the trail! Another Whistler bucket list adventure checked off ✅

Life’s been non-stop since, but looking back fills me with so much gratitude — for strong bodies, clear skies, laughter, and the reminder that we’re all capable of incredible things (both big and small) every single day.

Here’s to summits, sore feet, and those moments that make you pause and say wow, I really did that. 🏔💙

This series is all about Tapas — discipline, dedication, and the fire that fuels transformation. Each week we’ll explore how to build resilience, step through discomfort, and radiate the confidence you’ve cultivated on and off the mat.

🔥 Side Plank - Vasisthasana�From plank, shift weight to your right hand + outer right foot. Stack or stagger your feet, lift your hips, and reach your left arm high. Engage your core and breathe into your strength. Option to lift the foot. Keep the leg and foot engaged.

🔥 Easy Pose Side Stretch - Sukhasana Variation�Sit cross-legged. Anchor your sitting bones to the earth. Right hand to the floor, left arm sweeps overhead. Stretch through your side body, breathing spaciousness into the ribs. Switch sides.

🔥 Downward Dog - Adho Mukha Svanasana�From hands + knees, tuck your toes, lift hips up and back. Press into all 4 corners of your palms, press your chest to your thighs, lengthen your spine, sit bones tilt to the sky, soft bend in the knees, and let your heels soften toward the earth.

🔥 Hands at Heart - Anjali Mudra�Sit or stand tall. Palms press at heart center. Close your eyes, soften your shoulders, and take a grounding breath in gratitude.

A few of my favorite things 🩵

It was so much fun to play with these shapes in the forest. If you’d like to try them too, (I suggest practicing on a dry, flat, area) here’s how to step in:

🌿 Malāsana – Yogi Squat
Step your feet wide (or together for more challenge). Toes turn out, hips sink toward heels. Press elbows into knees, spine long, chest open, hands at heart. Option: block under your seat for support.

🌿 Vṛkṣāsana – Tree Pose
From Tadasana (Mountain), root down through your standing foot. Place the sole of your other foot at ankle, calf, or inner thigh. Hands at your heart, or grow branches overhead. Keep pressing into your midline as you stand tall.

🌿 Swing Pose
Find a swing in nature, hop on, and let yourself play. Joy is part of the practice.

🌿 Trikoṇāsana – Triangle Pose on a big, wet, mossy rock… not exactly the recipe for perfect alignment 😅
I love this photo anyway. A little reminder that yoga isn’t about nailing the ‘perfect’ shape — it’s about balance, breath, and showing up (even when it’s wobbly).

From Warrior II, straighten your front leg (keep a soft bend in your knee). Reach forward, then hinge from hips, tilt down, hand to shin, block, or earth. Opposite hand lifts to the sky. Lengthen through both sides of your waist, breath.

Yoga is movement, breath, nature, and play — all simple ways to bring more peace, strength, and joy into your life.

✨Wedge has always intimidated me — towering above, daring me to rise. This week, we finally did it. Step by step, breath by breath, we hiked to Tupper Lake, all the way to the glacier. What once felt impossible became a moving meditation. The still lake, the timeless glacier, the vast peaks — reminders that fear is only the edge of our growth. Just like yoga, the path may challenge us, but it always carries us closer to strength, clarity, and wonder 💙

Now it’s officially checked off the Whistler bucket list — THANK YOU BODY, for carrying me to the top! YAHOOOOOO, see you next summer Wedge 😝 🏔️💫
