They are young people like Sophie, who was self-harming and battled suicidal thoughts at age 12. After many hospital stays and moments of hopelessness, Ontario Shores finally gave her the structure and compassion she needed to believe that recovery was possible.
Today, Sophie is thriving, studying, playing rugby, and using her experience to advocate for youth mental health. With your support, we can help more young people find stability, healing, and the confidence to build a brighter future.

Between 2015 and 2019, approximately 54 out of every 100,000 Canadians were hospitalized for self-harm. This stat reminds us how important it is to support youth mental health and provide the care they need to heal.

They are people like Kevin, who experienced his first panic attack live on air, an event that reshaped his life and began his journey toward healing. Diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety, he learned that recovery starts with understanding yourself and holding on to hope. Today, Kevin helps others do the same, breaking stigma and proving that healing begins with honesty. With your support, we can help more people find the care and hope they need to heal.

In Canada, the share of people with diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder doubled from ~2.6% in 2012 to ~5.2% in 2022. Let’s break the stigma and ensure every person with anxiety get the support they need.

That recovery grows from support, not stigma. Thanks to the right help at Ontario Shores, Emanuel found his way back to community, purpose, and himself.

Our Story

Founded in 2009, Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health was created to raise funds, and support for Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores). Our goal is to also help bring awareness to, and reduce the stigma, surrounding mental illness. Throughout the years, our team, events, and fundraising programs have grown and evolved substantially. Together, we work with the numerous departments at Ontario Shores to lead change so that individuals with mental illness have access to the care they need, and the opportunity to fully participate in an inclusive and stigma-free society. Creating a sense of hope is one of the greatest gifts we can give to those living with complex mental health challenges. Our mission at Ontario Shores Foundation is to help create that hope through the combined efforts of our team, and the generous support of our donors and community. Together we are helping our patients to recover, and giving them that feeling of hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Everything we do is rooted in the principles of Discovery, Recovery, and Hope: Discovery.
