A "singular event" happened for Ardyth on Nov 4th, 1985. A singular event is something that occurs only once, is unique, and has a single outcome. It can refer to a specific, unique occurrence, like a historical event.
40 years ago, in Melita, Manitoba, Ardyth was "12 stepped" when friends hosted an intervention about her drinking. Though she had tried to hide it, people closest to her knew her drinking had become much more than a problem. It was time for her to stop.
She had listened to the AA members and her friends, attending an AA meeting the next day, and the day after that... she listened, she learned, she took shaky breathes and steps towards recovery.
She had no idea, that singular event- her quitting drinking- would 40 years later, lead to complete strangers, many of them not even born in 1985, sobering up today in the house she built- Prairie Sky Recovery.
Today, her picture hangs in the hall- a tribute to our founder and her dream. Today her name, story and picture are in the Orientation Handbook staff give to new clients, their hands and hearts just as shaky as hers had been 40 years before. Today, her daughters lead staff in delivering services, programs and love to those who need support in entering recovery. Today, her granddaughter welcomes new clients through the doors she opened 17 years before.
That singular event, 40 years ago, had a ripple effect that Ardyth could not have fathomed on that cold November night,
Today, and every day, we are grateful for that event. Today, we celebrate the Recovery of our founder Ardyth.
Happy Heavenly 40"" AA birthday Ardyth. We miss you and are grateful for your foresight, fortitude and recovery.
