Let’s talk skincare myths! ⬇️
This month is skincare education month, so we wanted to take a moment to highlight a few of the most popular myths that our clients bring up during their appointments.
1. Coffee causes acne ☕️
The causes of acne come from multiple factors including hormones, inflammation, genetics, and skincare practices. While caffeine can indirectly influence stress-related hormones, coffee itself isn’t actually a direct trigger.
2. A 20 step skincare routine doesn’t mean better skin 🧴
At Healthy Image, we prioritize routines that are customized and tailored to your skin type and concerns instead of recommending overwhelming routines. Typically a few well-chosen, evidence-based steps are more effective that overloading your skin.
3. Natural or ‘clean’ ingredients are always better and safer 🌿
Despite the idea that synthetic can be harmful for the skin, natural ingredients can still irritate or be unsuitable for certain skin types. Well-formulated clinical actives have decades of research proving benefit and safety when used correctly
4. Oily skin doesn’t need a moisturizer ✨
Even when your skin is oily, it still requires hydration. In fact, skipping moisturizer can paradoxically drive skin to produce more oil, worsening texture and breakouts.
1. You don’t need sunscreen unless it’s sunny ☀️
As we always say, daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is a cornerstone of skin health and anti-aging because UVA/UVB rays contribute to aging, pigmentation, and skin cancer even on cloudy days. So regardless of the weather, always have you sunscreen on!
Which of these myths did you fall for?
