🔬 Research Spotlight - Sigma Leadership in Action

We are proud to share that Brandon Boundy, RPN (Principal Investigator and Sigma Student Representative), and Dr. Edward Cruz (Research Mentor and Chapter President) have officially received Research Ethics Board (REB) approval for their study:

“Enhancing Research Education in Ontario Practical Nursing Programs: Bridging the Gap for Evidence-Based Practice.”

This research examines how nursing research is taught within Ontario Practical Nursing programs and explores how well this education prepares Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) to engage in evidence-informed practice. By gathering perspectives from PN educators and practicing RPNs, the study aims to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities to strengthen research education and build RPN research capacity across Ontario.

With REB approval now secured, the project will move forward into active data collection. https://www.facebook.com/share/185Z7DiZtU/?mibextid=wwXIfr

This project is funded through a Research Fellowship grant from the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (WeRPN) and is supported by the University of Windsor Faculty of Nursing, St. Clair College, and Lambton College.

This work reflects Sigma’s commitment to advancing nursing scholarship, leadership, and evidence-informed practice.

Congratulations to Brandon and Dr. Cruz on reaching this important milestone.

Internationally educated nurses are vital to Canada’s health-care system — but support gaps remain. 💙🩺

Faculty of Nursing professor Dr. Edward Cruz’s research highlights the systemic barriers many IENs face and calls for stronger, more consistent integration supports across provinces and employers.
