🧠 If the brain only focuses on survival, it will keep scanning for threats.

💡 But when we offer children purpose, play, and connection...

🌱 Their brain gets permission to rest, regulate, and grow.

Let’s create environments that support calm and connection not just compliance.

By popular demand, here's a handout version of our 2 Month Typical/Atypical Baby Motor Development video, which is available in 6 languages: English, Spanish, Greek, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Ukrainian.

These 8 positions are used by healthcare providers to determine if intervention is needed, and serves as a reference guide for parents on what to look for. If you have questions or concerns, use this handout to talk to your healthcare provider.

Look at the differences between a typical preschool child’s hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isn’t able to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Playdough, colouring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc. All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready!

BENEFITS OF RECESS AS A REGULATION TOOL FOR KIDS

Kids need recess as a regulation tool to help them sit still during class and to attend and focus for longer periods of time. Here's why...

01/29/2023

You're not being kind if you take away recess.
You're not being kind if you move their clip.
You're not being kind if you put them in timeout.
You're not being kind if you take away choice time or something you've determined is a "privilege."

We get it. Sometimes it's hard to be kind when YOU, the adult, are dysregulated.

Here's a good starting point: Be Curious.

I NOTICE you're having a hard time sitting in your chair during reading, what's up?
(That's a lot better than moving the clip of a sensory seeking child because they're not "sitting right")

I NOTICE your having a hard time finishing your work, what's up?
(That's a lot better than taking away recess from an easily distracted student for not finishing their work, especially if you don't know WHY they were having a hard time).

I NOTICE you're having a hard time waiting to be called on in class, what's going on?
(That's a lot better than taking away a "privilege" from an impulsive child for "calling out")

Model kindess.
Model collaboration.
Model compassion!
