I’ve begun a new adventure—a new job—which has opened the door to even more event opportunities for us at Life without a Tail. With that comes meeting wonderful new people who may not know our story yet. And I get it—the connection between candles and cats is a little unusual. So I thought it was time to reintroduce my business partners.
It all began with “CEO Bob,” a cat born without a tail who was supposed to be just a foster. We bonded instantly, and he never left. He brought a level of comfort into my life that’s hard to put into words. His wise, old-soul energy and the way he moved through the world—steady and unfazed despite his missing tail—inspired me.
Cats rely on their tails for balance and coordination. And sometimes, life leaves us feeling a little off-balance too. Life without a Tail started with our soy wax candles, each lightly scented with essential oils chosen for their aromatherapy benefits—for you to find your tail, your balance, the thing you need in life to steady your feet.
“Manager Moira” arrived just as unexpectedly as Bob. She came to us as a tiny bottle baby after her mother rejected her, needing round-the-clock care. She attended events with me for feedings and quickly became a local celebrity. Even now, she still joins me, when venues allow, even though she no longer requires my mothering skills. As she grew, we noticed tremors and unsteady movements. Another cat with balance challenges, mild Cerebellar Hypoplasia (wobbly cat syndrome). It felt only right that she officially become part of the Life without a Tail team.
Over time, we’ve expanded—adding our Sweeping Tail Spray, handmade Witch’s Bells, and of course stickers of our feline ambassadors for their fans. But that’s how it all began, and how one tailless cat started it all.
