Are you tired of re-telling your story and feeling the same?

🌾 Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a guided music therapy that works without you having to talk, process, or relive anything. In this process, your nervous system gets a chance to learn what safety actually feels like.

Here is why it might be exactly what you're missing:

🎧 It's specially filtered music, not a conversation
🎧 It focuses on the body as well as the mind
🎧 It's passive, all you have to do is listen
🎧 It enhances your existing talk therapy, not replace it

SSP was developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the author of Polyvagal Theory and is used in 70+ countries worldwide.

If you've began your healing journey and still feel stuck, this could be the missing piece.

We will be offering SSP sessions with our team member Mikaela soon! If you would like to add yourself to the waitlist or learn more, email Mikaela at mikaela@newsongpsychotherapy.com.

You might be wondering...what is SSP?

➡ It is a listening-based therapy that uses filtered music to support of a sense of safety and regulation.

Is it right for you?

🌾 If you experience...
➡ Chronic Defense/Stress
➡ Hypervigilance
➡ Withdrawal
➡ Sensory Overwhlem
➡ Anxiety/Depression

🌾 SSP might be the right fit for you. the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.

⭐ You can even do SSP sessions alongside regular talk therapy sessions!

If you would like to learn more or add yourself to our waitlist, please email our team member Mikaela at mikaela@newsongpsychotherapy.com

What happens in a Somatic Experiencing session?

🌾 In this reel, our Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Sharon, and SE Advanced Level Trainee, Mikaela, offer a brief look at how a session may begin, and the kinds of gentle questions used in somatic therapy to support nervous system regulation.

🫶 In SE, we slow down. We follow what’s happening in your body. As you pause and stay with sensations with safety and attunement — you may become aware of something you didn’t realize you were holding.

🫂 Sometimes there’s a settling.
Sometimes an impulse arises — a protective response that was never able to complete.

❤️‍🩹 When these incomplete stress responses are supported and gently integrated, the survival energy keeping you stuck in fight, flight, fawn, or freeze begin to release, and your nervous system can return to greater regulation and resilience.

❔If you’re curious how Somatic Experiencing could help you, or you’re looking for somatic trauma therapy, or nervous system healing, visit the link in our bio to book a discovery call with Mikaela or join Sharon’s waitlist.

Healing happens in relationship. We would be honoured to support you 🌿

This time of year often carries quiet expectations.

Be hopeful. Be excited. Be ready for what’s next.

But for many people, the body tells a more complex story.

You might feel curiosity alongside hesitation.
Relief mixed with uncertainty.
Moments of motivation followed by a need to slow down.

Mixed emotions aren’t something to resolve, they’re something to listen to. Multiple truths can exist at the same time, and your nervous system may be responding wisely to change, transition, and the unknown.

You don’t have to force optimism to be “doing it right.”

You don’t have to pick one feeling and stick with it.

And you don’t have to rush clarity.

Therapy can offer space to slow down, tune into what’s happening beneath the surface, and meet this season with more compassion and support at your own pace.

✨ Book with Nancy to explore a body-aware, trauma-sensitive approach to navigating uncertainty and emotional complexity.

The holidays tend to amplify emotional comparison. Who seems relaxed? Who looks connected.? Who appears to be enjoying it?

If you’re noticing pressure to stay pleasant, keep things light, or “be fine” when you’re not, that’s a common response, not a personal failing. This time of year brings up old roles for many people and unprocessed grief, or the quiet effort of holding it together.

Working with Nancy offers a trauma-informed, steady space to slow this down. Her approach is relational and attuned, focused on understanding how these patterns developed and how they’re showing up now, without forcing cheer, positivity, or quick resolutions. Sessions move at a pace that respects your history and capacity.

If you’re interested, you can book a free consultation with Nancy through the link in our bio to see if working together feels like the right fit.

The holidays can be joyful but they can also push your boundaries in ways you don’t notice at first.

Tight shoulders, shallow breath, tension in your stomach are all your body’s early signals that you may need to pause, protect your energy, or step back from a situation. Boundaries aren’t just about what you say “yes” or “no” to; they begin in your nervous system.

During the holiday season, it’s okay to:

✨ Step away to regulate your nervous system

✨ Limit time with people or situations that feel triggering

✨ Say no without guilt. Your body and mind deserve safety.

If the holidays feel overwhelming, Mikaela Courchesne (Registered Psychotherapist, Qualifying) and Nancy Sylvain (Registered Social Worker) can help you identify and honour your boundaries from the inside out.

Their body-based, trauma-responsive approach supports clients in staying regulated, feeling safe, and navigating family dynamics with clarity and care.

If you would like to book a session with Mikaela or Nancy today, please use the link in our bio.

As the holiday season approaches, many people feel pressure to say yes, to keep the peace, or to meet expectations that don’t align with their emotional needs. Boundaries are a way of taking care of ourselves. Boundaries reduce overwhelm, increase safety, and support regulation.

When your body feels safer, healing becomes possible.

This season, give yourself permission to pause, to check in with what you truly need, and to communicate those needs with clarity and kindness. Setting boundaries isn’t selfish, it’s an essential part of healthy relationships and sustainable well-being.

For many people, this month brings a mix of emotions. There is a cultural pressure to feel "merry" even when your heart is heavy.

Grief doesn’t follow the holiday calendar. It doesn’t pause for celebrations or wait until January to return. December simply has a way of making emotions feel closer to the surface.

If you’re moving through loss either recently or years later, your experience is valid. It’s okay to take things slowly and step back from expectations. You are allowed to care for your heart in the ways you need.

If this season feels especially heavy, Ramona and Nancy, two of our therapists here at New Song Psychotherapy, offers a compassionate, safe, trauma-responsive space for processing grief. They honours your personal journey with grief and tailor their support to fit your unique needs.

If you’d like support this December, you can book a session with Ramona or Nancy through the link in our bio.

12/01/2025

Checking in with the men in your life is more than a kind gesture — it’s an act of care that can genuinely shift someone’s mental and emotional well-being.

Men often carry heavy responsibilities, pressures, and expectations in silence. Many were raised to stay strong, stay quiet, and “handle it.”

But those quiet check-ins?

Those simple, intentional moments of connection?

They remind men that they don’t have to move through life alone.

A quick “Hey, how’s your day going?” A call on the drive home.

Showing up without trying to fix anything.

These small acts can ease isolation, open the door to honesty, and sometimes offer support at exactly the right time.

A short conversation can truly change someone’s day — and often, more than you know.

If you or someone you care about needs support, our therapist Nancy, who specializes in men’s mental health, is here to help. She offers a safe, grounded, and compassionate space for men to explore stress, identity, relationships, emotional health, and the pressures they don’t always feel they can talk about.

You don’t have to navigate this alone — and neither do the men in your life.

Silent burnout doesn’t always look like falling apart. Sometimes, it looks like “I’m fine.”

Many men push through stress, exhaustion, and pressure quietly, believing they just need to keep going. But that silent grind takes a real toll on mental and physical health.

That’s where Nancy, our therapist who specializes in men’s mental health, steps in. She works with men navigating overwhelming schedules, identity stressors, and the pressure to stay strong. With Nancy, you’ll find a judgment-free space to slow down, unpack what’s going on beneath the surface, and rebuild a healthier way forward.

You can book a session with Nancy through the link in our bio.

Start small today: choose one burnout breaker you can do in the next 10 minutes: a short walk outside, or writing down a non-negotiable boundary. Small shifts create breathing room, and breathing room offers relief and clarity.

You don’t have to carry the quiet weight alone. We’re here when you’re ready.
