Did you know the Canadian Physiotherapy Code of Conduct preserves your right to choose which clinic you want to go to — no matter who is paying?

That means people involved in car accidents, WCB (work-related injuries), legal cases, and sports teams or organizations are all legally free to decide where they receive treatment — without worry of any negative impact to their case or situation.

Some insurance companies or employers may provide a list of “preferred providers,” but this is only a suggestion — you are never required to attend a specific clinic. Your claim, benefits, or case will not be affected by choosing a physiotherapist you trust.

Because physiotherapy is a regulated medical profession, your rights as a patient are protected under the Canada Health Act and by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, which ensures ethical and patient-centred care for all Canadians.

Your recovery, your choice.

From — Doctors tell us that they receive several requests a day for referrals to see physiotherapists, massage therapists, or chiropractors.

You likely don’t need one.

Help free up doctors’ time by heading straight to the allied health professional.

What is ALS?

ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disease also known as Motor Neuron Disease (MND) or Lou Gehrig’s disease. It targets motor neurons, crucial for transmitting messages to voluntary muscles like arms and legs. While 90% of cases arise sporadically, 5-10% are inherited. Approximately 6-8 out of every 100,000 people are diagnosed with ALS.

Physiotherapists support ALS patients with treatments and equipment for comfort, breathing, mobility, and communication. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including ALS Clinic experts, they help guide decisions on interventions and equipment, ensuring tailored care to enhance quality of life amidst the challenges of the disease.

Visit the ALS society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia website at https://alsnbns.ca/en/ for more information, resources and descriptions of their services offered including support groups and the equipment loan program.
