During perimenopause, your liver breaks down alcohol slower, meaning it lingers in your body longer.
Alcohol lowers melatonin, depletes your body of B vitamins, and spikes cortisol. Even one drink can disrupt sleep, cause night sweats, hot flashes, and increase anxiety.
Research has shown that even one drink a day increases your risk of breast cancer.
This is also true of other toxic substances, including anesthesia. Women over 40 are at much higher risk of developing dementia after exposure to anesthesia.
Liver support is of the utmost importance after the age of 40. My favourite liver supplements are: milk thistle, taurine, dandelion root, red clover, yellow dock, and NAC.

In order to heal leaky gut, you must take a multi step approach.
First and foremost is to avoid food triggers: processed foods, sugars and refined oils. Incorporate nutrient dense, healing foods such as bone broth, sprouted grains, fermented foods, fresh fruits and vegetables.
Step two is improve digestion with enzymes, apple cider vinegar, or betaine HCL.
Step three is to ensure regular bowel movements, make sure to supplement with magnesium and vitamin C and get adequate fiber. Yellow dock and triphala can be used if there are still difficulties.
Step four is to eliminate harmful gut bacteria using cloves, garlic, pau D’arco, oregano oil, or mastic gum.
Step five is to reduce intestinal inflammation and “plug the leaks”: aloe Vera, chamomile, marshmallow, slippery elm, plantain, L-glutamine, or N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG) can all repair the gut lining.
Step six is to repopulate the gut with probiotics, prebiotics like inulin or Reishi, and post biotics like butyrate to create a diverse gut microbiome.

Turmeric has been used as food and medicine for over 5000 years, it’s a member of the ginger family, although it contains many compounds, the most active is curcumin. It has so many benefits, it is said to be able to help with over 500 conditions.
While internally, it can help to prevent blood clots and thin the blood, when applied to a wound it can instantly stop bleeding.
It is classified as an “anti angiogenesis” agent, meaning it can stop the blood supply to tumours, halting the growth and spread.
The most powerful action of curcumin is as an anti inflammatory, one of the strongest in the world. It can significantly reduce pain and swelling.
It can speed wound healing and increase “glow” of the skin, it can even decrease acne scars.
It has hepato protective properties and aids in liver detoxification, this can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

2000 years ago Hippocrates said, “All disease begins in the gut”. In a world of ultra processed food and constant chemical exposure, this is more true than ever.
The intestines are protected by a layer of special cells which control what is allowed to pass into the bloodstream (vital nutrients), and preventing toxins and bacteria from passing out of the bloodstream into the body.
Poor diet, chronic stress, toxic overload, and bacterial imbalance can cause these cells to be compromised and form gaps, leading to intestinal hyperpermeability, or leaky gut.
On Friday I’ll detail a protocol to heal leaky gut for good.

Unlike men who operate on a 24 hour cycle, women operate on a 28 day cycle. This fluctuating hormone cycle can cause differentiations in our energy , strength, immunity, and ability to recover. It’s important to listen to your body, some women can sail through the month with no difficulty, the next can be struggling, especially during times of stress or during perimenopause.
Here’s a breakdown of changes during each phase:
Menstrual Phase (Day 1-7)
Energy levels are low due to a drop in hormones. Focus on light workouts and lots of stretching, yoga, and walking to avoid burnout.

Follicular Phase (Day 8-13)
Estrogen levels rise, boosting energy and strength. Best time for high intensity workouts and heavy lifting.

Ovulation Phase (Day 14-21)
Peak strength and performance due to a spike in testosterone. Best for heavy lifting and cardio.

Luteal Phase (Day 22-28)
Progesterone rises, leading to fatigue and water retention. Focus on moderate workouts.

St John’s wort has been used medicinally for over 2000 years, it was given this name because it usually blooms around June 24, the birthday of John the Baptist.
It is most famous for its use as an antidepressant, studies show it works as well as an SSRI. It’s very effective in treating Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and relieving the mood symptoms of perimenopause.
It is such a soothing nervine, it can help regenerate damaged nerves, making it excellent for any type of neuralgias.
It can be used to overcome addictions by decreasing withdrawal symptoms.
Photosensitivity can occur, but usually only when taken in large doses.

Diet: reduce starches and sugars (yeast feeds on this)
Try an elimination diet to avoid food triggers
Add unsweetened yogurt or kefir to food

Probiotics: especially the Lactobacillus strains to boost gut bacteria and keep yeast in check

Apple cider vinegar skin rinse to discourage yeast growth

Coconut oil rubbed into skin to soothe irritation and has antifungal properties

Support gut lining (especially if there are lipomas as well): L glutamine or N-Acetyl Glucosamine (NAG)

Herbal antifungal: oregano oil, olive leaf, or caprylic acid

Bathing with neem oil added

The Full Moon has an interesting impact on hormones and chemical balance. We’ve all heard about ER’s and nursing homes being extra busy during a Full Moon, turns out there’s a reason for this.
Melatonin levels drop every Full Moon, this is a neurotransmitter that sends critical messages within your brain and nervous system. It impacts both sleep and immunity and a drop can leave you sleep deprived and vulnerable to illness.
Serotonin levels rise during a Full Moon, making some feel energized and happy, but some people can feel irritable and overstimulated.
Serotonin also affects parasite behaviour. Parasites have serotonin receptors, so the increase enhances their mobility. This is why a Full Moon can be a great time to do a parasite cleanse , or at least increase consumption of anti parasitic foods like pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, papaya, soursop, walnuts, onions, and garlic.

Spirulina is a blue green algae grown all over the world. The health benefits are so profound there are more than 3000 peer reviewed studies evaluating its benefits. It’s extremely nutrient dense, especially in amino acids.
One of the major benefits is its ability to detox heavy metals.
It’s an effective antifungal, particularly for candida. Additionally, it promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
Spirulina increases the production of antibodies, helping to improve immunity and ward off infections.
Blue vs green?
Both offer similar benefits, but differ slightly in composition.
Blue spirulina derives its colour from phycocyanins (the same compound found in methylene blue), which is a powerful antioxidant. The flavour tends to be a little milder and it offers more benefits to the mitochondria, boosting cellular function.
Green spirulina derives its colour from chlorophyll, having a slightly stronger, earthy taste, it offers stronger detoxification and gut benefits.

Most of us are familiar with the benefits of red light therapy, but did you know there’s a whole spectrum of colours that can be utilized for a targeted approach to healing?
Colour therapy was discovered by Dinshah Ghadiali, he extensively researched colour activation of body systems and put it into practice, it was even used in a major medical center in Philadelphia in 1920.
Here’s some examples of colours that can heal:

Red: Stimulates the sensory nervous system, liver, and blood, energizes the 5 senses. A detoxification colour.

Orange: Stimulates the lungs, respiratory system, stomach, skeletal system, bones, mammary glands, and thyroid. Relieves cramps and muscle spasms.

Yellow: Nerve builder for the sensory and motor systems. Stimulates the lymph system, intestines, pancreas, digestive fluids and bowel movements. A depressant for the spleen, helps lift melancholy, used to expel worms and parasites.

Green: Brings the body into balance (it’s why I chose this colour for my store😊) Activates the pituitary gland, stimulates the rebuilding of muscle and tissue. General antiseptic, germicide, and disinfectant, helps decrease pathogens and prevent decay.

Turquoise: Improves nutrient assimilation and repair of acute disorders. Rebuilds burned skin, has a cooling influence on the body.

Indigo: Stimulates parathyroid, calms the thyroid, respiration and mammary milk production. Controls abscesses, reduces secretions, stops bleeding. Sedative effect.

Violet: Spleen stimulant, decreases muscular activity, including the heart. Calms the nervous system, promotes the production of white blood cells.

Purple: Induces deep relaxation, decreases pain sensitivity, increases functional activity of the blood veins, lowers blood pressure, dilates blood vessels, reduces heart rate, decreases activity in the kidneys and adrenals, lowers fevers. A sleeping colour.

Magenta: Balances emotions, strengthens and balances the heart, circulatory system, kidneys, adrenals, and reproductive organs.

Scarlet: General stimulant. Increases functional activity of the arteries, kidneys, adrenal glands, reproductive organs, circulatory system. Emotional stimulant.

Nervines and adaptogens can be taken together, but what’s the difference between the two, and which is right for you?
Nervines:
-Typically fast acting and often used as a sleep aid or the relief of anxiety
-Calming to the nervous system and can be used to relax muscles and alleviate pain
-Often used to take you out of sympathetic dominance and into a parasympathetic state
-Often used short term
-Use caution, can be drug interactions

Examples of Nervines:
St John’s wort
Passionflower
Lemon balm
5-HTP
Lemon balm
Catnip
Chamomile
Valerian
Hops
Lobelia

Adaptogens:
-Long term use is needed to get full benefits
-Used to build resilience in the body against stress and fatigue
-Modulator in the body, balancing the immune system, hormone production, HPA (hypothalamus/pituitary/adrenal) axis to reduce the output of stress hormones.
-Completely nontoxic

Examples of adaptogens:
Ashwagandha
Rhodiola
Ginseng
Astragalus
Schizandra
Reishi
Cordyceps
Eleuthero
Maca
