Society has an obsession with categorizing diets-vegan, keto, omnivore, raw, carnivore- we’re constantly told that one diet is best, when in reality, the truth is more nuanced.
When we isolate ourselves with one diet trend, we ignore the complexity of human nutrition. It’s essential to move beyond the extremes and seek balanced approaches to eating.
There are conditions in which restrictive eating for a time may be of benefit- keto during a cancer battle (especially with a brain tumor), carnivore with MCA’s, LOW FODMAP with SIBO- but these should always be temporary.
Focus on eating intuitively, if you listen to your body, you get a pretty good indication what you should be eating. Gas, bloating, hives, diarrhea, constipation, and pain are not normal reactions to food.
Next, focus on eating real food, do most of your grocery shopping around the perimeter of the store-produce and meat.
Lastly try to eat seasonally and locally produced if possible. Our digestive systems are supported by eating certain nutrients at certain times of the year.
In the Fall and Winter, eat your warming root vegetables, soups and stews. Spring and Summer, eat all your fresh veggies and fruits, it’s a time of renewal as cleansing, our bodies are more active and need all the great enzymes.
Don’t assume that a diet that worked for one person will work for all, we are all unique, sons of us don’t have adequate stomach acid to break down an all meat diet, some of us have MCA’s and can’t eat a lot of fermented foods, or SIBO, where we may struggle with a lot of raw fruits and vegetables.
