🕊️’Tis the Season for Kindness 🫶🏼 One selfless or kind act can have a ripple effect that can be far reaching.
I’m going to share something that occurred earlier this morning and I want to preface this by saying I’m not looking for recognition, clout, or anything like that, I can only hope that this inspires you to look for kindness, and to take opportunities to be kind and helpful to those who are in need.
This morning I saw a person in need of help and decided to do what I could to assist them. They were trying to navigate, with their guide dog, the mounds of snow left on the sidewalk from the street plowing of Portage Ave. (do better - clear the sidewalks when plowing major routes, don’t just clear the driveways and street openings!) After seeing dozens of cars pass them by without a glance, I decided to take action. I crossed the street, put my hazards on, pulled over, and got out to talk to them.
After discussing the state of the sidewalks and how her guide dog had not experienced a winter like this before (and that she had fallen several times already), I offered her a ride to her destination, which turned out to be a Church only 250m from where we were on the same side of the street.
I didn’t get her name, although she asked for mine, and I got her and her guide-dog safely to her Church and in the doors.
I honestly don’t know what happened after that, I just went home with my cold McDonalds breakfast… but I hope that she passed along the kindness, even if it was just a kind pat for her brave puppy (who didn’t want to get into the car with her at the beginning and needed some coaxing).
And so, I encourage you… offer a steady arm to someone who looks like they might slip, help push out a stuck car, donate to your local food bank before and after the holidays, pay for the order of the car behind you, pass out handwarmers on the skating rink, or something else like that this season, and beyond.
It really could make all the difference in the world. ‘Tis the Season for kindness, but honestly, kindness is ALWAYS in Season.
