Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the cervix grow uncontrollably and can spread to other tissues. Early detection through regular screening improves treatment outcomes. Anyone with a cervix who has had sexual contact should start screening by age 25. Pap tests are recommended every 3 years and should continue until age 70, or longer if there haven’t been three negative tests in the past 10 years.
