Can You Still Take Expired Vitamins?

Vitamins and supplements have "best by" dates, but don't technically expire. Vitamins can lose potency at different rates depending on the form they're in, and it is recommended to store them in a cool, dry place. Once they're past their "best by" date, they lose potency and are considered a waste of time. If they have become moldy or smelly, they should be thrown out as they can be unsafe to consume. Expired vitamins should be disposed of safely by dumping them into a plastic bag with an undesirable substance, sealing it, and putting it in the trash or taking it to a drug take-back center. Vitamins will last as long as they're meant to if stored properly.

ACPN PARTNERS UP TO USE EXPIRED MEDICINES

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has partnered with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to check the use of expired medicines in the communities across Lagos State and the country at large.

To cut down on the amount of expired medications, this could be a wonderful move. We at Expentory support all initiatives that lessen the use of drugs that are about to expire and improve the environment.

Are expired medications safe to consume?

Canadians should avoid stockpiling and consuming expired medication, some experts say, as drug shortages continue to trouble the country.

“The advice is always if you have expired medications, you should dispose of them rather than use them. The real reason for this is that with medications, the expiry date is really the date that you can guarantee that the specific dose (on the bottle) is the dose you can expect to receive (benefits for) when you take it,” Kelly Grindrod, associate professor of pharmacy at the University of Waterloo, told Global News.
