Stay Calm In The Fire

Stay Calm In The Fire Stay Calm In The Fire is a concept that came from the darkest of places. It is my hope to be a beacon of light for others. To be able to feel vulnerable.

To provide a place where people can connect and share their stories. Talk about their greatest fears and find a community of others who have gone through similar situations/struggles. Stay Calm In The Fire is a place to share resources and support. and to help you overcome obstacles and navigate through the tough times. I want to shed light on the travesty that is the healthcare system and hope to encourage others to continue fighting, to be resilient. Stay Calm In The Fire is a motto, an energy, a feeling in the core of your body. Finding a way to dig deep when you feel like you have already gone as far as you can and you find that little bit of extra to keep going. Stay Calm In The Fire is the ultimate truth, it's real, it's all the emotions and allowing yourself to feel them all. Defying the odds. It's burn the ships, it's no looking back. It's confining yourself to the present. It's being the hero in your own story. It's suffering your way to greatness. It's being the change you want to see in the world. It's controlling what's within you and not letting the outside noise eat you alive. It's shedding the skin of who you used to be, to becoming the person you were meant to be. Stay Calm In The Fire is understanding where energy goes, energy flows.

Johnny Gaudreau in 2016: “It was a regular Wednesday afternoon and my dad had called my mom at work. There was a lot of concern in his voice.

‘I just don’t think he has it. He’s not going make it as a hockey player. I don’t think he has it in him.’

My mom was silent on the other end of the line for a beat before responding.

‘Guy, he’s only three years old. Give it some time.’

I know the saying ‘I was born to become a hockey player’ is a little cliché, but I don’t know how else to put it. My dad owns a hockey rink and he was sharpening my first pair of skates while I was still in the womb.

He tried to wait out my infancy, but it must have been frustrating for him. When I turned two, he started trying to teach me how to skate. It didn’t go so well, given that I was still getting a handle on walking. So there’d I’d be in the middle of the ice, floundering around, while I imagine my dad was off to the side, shaking his head.

I guess he decided the reason I wasn’t doing double axels was because I needed motivation, so as a new teaching strategy he began throwing Skittles on the ice and getting me to chase after them. Out of necessity, I’d crawl towards each individual Skittle, desperately reaching. After a while, I guess my desire for sugar coaxed me to get up and start skating a few strides between them. In general,it’s not recommended you throw debris on the ice, but I guess there are some perks to owning your own rink....

As a kid I had the ice available to me whenever I wanted. During my formative years, I probably spent more time in skates than I did shoes. I had 10 or 15 close buddies, and we’d spend every possible hour we could playing shinny.I learned how to play the game during those hours upon hours when I was laughing and goofing around on the ice. When you’re among friends, you don’t worry about screwing up when you’re trying out moves. But I think once you get those reps in and aren’t self-conscious about screwing up, the difficult parts of the game become second nature. The flow of things seems natural. And you get to figure out on your own what you love about hockey.

For me, it was scoring goals. Always has been.”

Every single day is a battle. Physical, mental and emotional challenges are always trying.

I falter, I struggle to see anything positive and then a moment comes that flips the switch letting me know that I will conquer the day, I make a step or two forward. Tomorrow will come and I will reset and draw a new battle plan.

Until the new dawn, just remember - I am healing, I am resilient and I am a fu***ng warrior.

Pain is a complex, unpleasant sensation that can be caused by a wide variety of factors. It can range from mild discomfort to severe agony and can be acute or chronic.

Acute pain is typically caused by injury or tissue damage, while chronic pain often results from an underlying condition such as arthritis or fibromyalgia.

Unfortunately, Warren is not typical and his pain is a continuous, non-stop attack due to multiple conditions, one being very rare.  Having a rare condition makes it harder to find relief and options.

The wait for the pain clinic in Winnipeg has been a year and a half and counting.  We recently spoke with them and he might get in between January - March 2024...over a two-year minimum wait!  Take a moment to think about being in pain 24-7, for this amount of time, and having one painkiller after another barely working.  Paying for therapies to keep mobile and alleviate some of the pain.  These only reduce the pain for a short period.  A reprieve from the agony scale.

Always be proactive and advocate for your health and see your medical professional as often as it takes to get them to listen and help find answers for your particular pain.  Pain can also be accompanied by other symptoms such as inflammation, redness, and swelling.

Stay Calm In The Fire was started as a way to share Warren’s story.  A way to share the pain, trials and every stage of emotion and loneliness.  We work towards sharing recipes, resources, information about autoimmune disease as well as stroke and stroke recovery.  We want people to have the opportunity to share their stories and experiences, creating a community of support, growth and understanding.

We want to share the good, the bad, the ugly and the handsome.  There are good days and bad days and want to show all of these in order to let you know that these moments and emotions actually exist, that social media, images, and podcasts can be real and not just during times of best composure or glam.  Sometimes there may be tears or hoarse voices as we just want show what it’s truly like to go through what Warren has gone through, and continues to push through.

It's stroke awareness month.

Most people associate stroke risk factors being overweight, physical inactivity, heavy drinking, drug use, high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.

We have learned learned there are other conditions that can cause stroke. In the case of Warren it was sarcoidosis.

Young people are at risk just as elderly, yet are overlooked due to age. We hope to change this mentality.

has two other stories of young people having strokes on their website.

Take the time to learn more about stroke, their factors, their affects and keep following and sharing as we continue to push through.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to figure it all out. The website should be coming live in the next couple days. We look forward to sharing not only Warren's stories, but recipes, resources and the stories of others who are battling autoimmune diseases.

Sooooo…my Lord of the Rings type health saga continues. Wish I had some great news to pass along, but unfortunately that’s just not the case…facts don’t care about my feelings. Is what it is…No happy ending/finish line in sight, which truthfully is heavy..…However, the prognosis/results could have been much worse. I found out that I don’t have pulmonary hypertension, which means the PVOD has not spread/grown in size, been triggered any which way or form…as The angiogram results showed normal blood flow to the heart and lungs 🙌🏻

So today wasn’t an emphatic slam dunk by any stretch …but it is something.. It takes countless battles to win a war so I’ll take this “W” for now. Enjoy the present moment, as My heart still beats and my lungs still work...I’m grateful for that..
