Approximately 40,000 cardiac arrests occur in Canada every year. 80% of those are outside of a hospital setting. With each passing minute, the probability of survival declines by 7% to 10%. Defibrillation improves survival rates by up to 30% if delivered in the first few minutes. AEDs combined with CPR increases survival rates to 50% or more.
Making defibrillators easily accessible in public buildings such as malls, arenas and businesses has the potential to save thousands of lives. ♥️

What Do Darth Vader and CPR Have in Common?

About a 104 beats per minute.

Star Wars fans!!
If you can hum Vader’s theme song, The Imperial March (and we know you can), then you can also deliver the recommended rate of compressions for hands-only CPR. Why? Because the infamous Sith Lord marches to the rhythm of 104 beats per minute, which is within the 100- to 120-compressions-per-minute range recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Emergencies can occur when we least expect it or when we’re not prepared for it. Knowing how to give first aid and CPR are not just for those suffering from a heart attack or a stroke, but also for those what are bleeding, having difficulty breathing, suffering from the side effects of drugs and other medical emergencies.
This is why it is very important that everyone should take First Aid and CPR courses. Quicker the helps is given, the better the chances are that the victim survives.
