One of the common misconceptions about therapy is that it is supposed to make you feel better immediately after every session. However, this is not always the case. While therapy is designed to help you cope with your emotions and improve your mental health, it is a gradual process that requires time, patience, and effort.

Therapy sessions can often bring up difficult emotions and memories that you may have been avoiding or suppressing. It is natural to feel vulnerable or emotionally drained after a session, and it may take time to process and integrate the insights and strategies discussed in the session.

It is important to remember that therapy is not a quick fix. It is a journey that involves self-exploration, reflection, and the development of new skills and perspectives. The benefits of therapy are often cumulative, and you may start to notice positive changes in your mood, behavior, and relationships over time. Taking care of oneself is a fundamental aspect of leading a healthy and well-rounded lifestyle. It involves acknowledging and addressing one's physical, mental, and emotional needs, which are crucial for maintaining overall well-being. Self-love and self-care encompass a wide range of activities that aim to improve the quality of life, such as setting boundaries to prevent exhaustion, indulging in activities that bring joy and relaxation, and engaging in practices that promote mindfulness and inner peace.

To achieve optimal health and wellness, one must nourish the body with healthy food, exercise regularly, get adequate rest, and engage in practices that promote mental and emotional well-being. Practicing self-love means treating oneself with kindness and compassion, refraining from negative self-talk and self-criticism, and cultivating a strong sense of self-worth and confidence.

Let's talk about mental health!

I think there needs to be more conversations about mental health and how important it is to ensure you are looking after yourself.

This is an important initiative to improve the understanding of mental health conditions and to increase access to healthcare for those who need it.

Mental health is important because it can help people cope with stress, be physically healthy, have good relationships, make meaningful contributions to communities, work productively, and help pepper realize their fullest potential.

No two journeys are alike, and I am here to offer guidance and support every step of the way.I am dedicated to assisting you in making lasting and constructive changes in your life through proven psychological techniques.

Modalities that I am trained in are CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, Positive Psychology, Strength Based Approaches, Solution Focused Therapy, Art Therapy, Play Therapy and EMDR Therapy. I have experience helping people with depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, grief and loss, self esteem, confidence, relationships, communication, abuse, personality disorders, anger management, chronic pain, addiction and developing new habits. I am also a certified personal trainer with a background in nutrional wellness which allows me to provide a wrap around approach to wellness and health. I provide counselling for individuals, couples, youth and families with the option for in person or virtual sessions.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is very serious and is seen in every walk of life. The effects of domestic violence can contribute to increased incidences of depression, anxiety, PTSD and su***de. Not only can it affect our mental health, but it also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature mortality.

Relationships are meant to enrich our lives and provide us with comfort. While the effects of domestic violence can be very devasting, they are preventable.

Some signs of DV are:

Physical abuse, aggression towards a partner, an abusive partner might have unpredictable mood swings, verbal threats, minimizing their partner's feelings, show jealousy, isolation, manipulation, sexual coercion, gaslighting and controlling behaviours.

Prevention involves creating protective factors which can help support people that might be at higher risk for DV. This includes healthy relationship programs, parenting programs, changing social environments, and providing treatment and support for survivors.

If you are in an abusive relationship, remember that you are not alone. It's essential to know the signs and realize that if you do not feel safe in your relationship, to reach out for help. No matter your situation, know that there is hope. Recovery from the effects of violence is possible, and with the proper support, many survivors find safety and go on to have healthy relationships.
