Trends-gotta love ’em, gotta do ’em!

Going through my 2016 Facebook memories (because posting on your timeline was a thing lol) and realizing all of this was 10 years ago is 🤯 So much has changed, yet so much feels the same…..the passion for optometry, the love for people, just in a different phase of life. From associate life to practice ownership, from city living to a little country life.

Along the way, some friendships were added, and some gently faded..each one serving its purpose in that season of life.

Back then, it was a year into marriage and a lot of traveling.
Now, our little family has grown from two to four & we stay pretty local.

Taking photos and documenting life along the way is still a passion- so doing this trend and seeing the growth, the shifts, and the constants was pretty special ☺️!

Looking back as we step into 2026, I’m so proud of all that Academy Optical has grown into.

Two years of working here and one full year of ownership with Arsh…..what a journey. From learning and implementing advanced dry eye treatments like RF and IPL, to a full office renovation this past summer, the growth came in ways we never expected. The universe truly accelerated us.

Beyond clinical growth, this year allowed us to open our doors to the community in ways we never imagined—shooting CTV Morning Live in the office, honoring our local MLAs, hosting a comedy show, and even celebrating a milestone 40th birthday within these walls.

We are endlessly grateful for the continued trust and support from our patients. Winnipeg’s love for supporting local truly shows, and it means everything to us. This is a dream come true for Arsh and me.

Stepping into 2026 with bigger dreams, deeper gratitude, and excitement for what’s ahead 🙏🏽

These Figs fleece jackets (embroidered so perfectly by ) made us feel even more bonded as a team! Feeling cozy, warm (inside and out 🥰)proud, and very Academy Optical!

Having Rhonda, our AO grandma, right in the middle, with Mama Elaine on one side and the rest of us leaning in like the kids we are 😂… this photo just felt right 🥹.

Our Christmas nails tradition with my girl Carmen—started after we came back from optometry school in Chicago—is officially celebrating 15 years this year 🎄💅🏽

It marks the start off our holiday season every single time. No matter how busy life gets, we always make time for this tradition, and honestly… it’s what truly puts me in the holiday spirit each year.

We even added some gems this time to celebrate the big 1️⃣5️⃣ And I think we may have finally found our forever home for this tradition.

We love you you ladies were SO much fun. What a special space you’ve created 🤍

A big thank you to the WEI team and Hoffmann-La Roche for hosting such a valuable evening for us MB optometrists on the co-management of retinal disease. Dr. Andre Jastrzebski, Dr. Josh Manusow, and Dr. Deepa Yoganathan shared excellent insights on referral timing, new treatment options for AMD, DME, and RVO, and the importance of patient education.

Always so grateful for the close collab between our optometry and ophthalmology colleagues here in Manitoba — a wonderful evening of learning, great food and drinks, and even better company, of course 😉👌!

This weekend was more than just a workshop—it was truly a healing experience. There were moments I got goosebumps hearing the life-changing patient stories shared by Dr. Angela Peddle and Dr. Vi Tu Banh. The power of optometry to heal and transform lives left me in awe. What a privilege it is to be in this profession 🙏🏽.

Every primary care optometrist needs to take this type of course. Whether it’s amblyopia, strabismus, concussions, or TBIs, the tools we gain here can change lives—sometimes with something as small as a microprism or a tint. Patients who’ve been everywhere else and found no relief may finally get answers through vision care.

This was the 15th time this course has been taught in just 3 years, and I can see why—it’s inspirational, empowering, and absolutely essential. I’d take it again in a heartbeat and recommend it to every colleague!

We even started the morning with laughing yoga in the parking lot (the perfect energy boost!) and ended on the sweetest note—Dr. Peddle had shared a Winnie-the-Pooh quote during her lecture, only to realize Pooh was actually from Winnipeg! 🐻 I was able to gift her the children’s book I read to my own kids, and before flying back to Ontario, she even had the chance to visit the Winnie-the-Pooh Museum. Such a special full-circle moment.

Grateful to Dr. Peddle and Dr. Banh for bringing this transformational course to Winnipeg, and to Dr. Matt Anderson for hosting us. Grateful for the recharge and eager to put these tools into action with my patients!
