🏅 Looking back at the 17th Annual All Seniors Care Seniors Games

From the first lap of the Walk & Roll to the last Jeopardy question, this year was packed with laughter, purpose, and powerful moments.

Residents showed us what active aging really means — moving with joy, cheering each other on, and celebrating every win, big or small.

Thanks to our families, staff, and communities who made it all possible 💛
See you next year!

Our final event took place this morning, with 13 contestants vying for the last medals of the games by showing us their true intellectual capabilities in our Jeopardy event. As in all things, we all have different things we know more about and others that we know less about. But to me it does take a certain kind of courage to put yourself out there to answer questions in front of your peers in categories you may or may not know much about. And we never know in advance what the categories will be, so well done, one and all jeopardy contestants. A gold medal winner was clearly defined, but as per normal SC II fashion, we had 3 people tie for the last medals. After undergoing tiebreaker questions, the last 2 medals were determined.
• Bronze: Laure Rous
• Silver: Linda Gagliardi
• Gold: Joanne Cale
We were honored to have Roger from Crystal Sound assist with the medal presentations today before enticing us onto the dance floor to close down the absolutely awesome week of the All Seniors Care Senior Games!!!
We go forth, continuing on our own Yellow Brick Roads, but taking with us so many fantastic memories!!
Happy trails, one and all!!

At SC II, 16 shuffleboard players began the Senior Games tournament which would span 2 weeks of healthy competition. Players, and cheerleaders, came faithfully to cheer on the competitors.
Today, the tournament concluded and medal winners were defined.
It never ceases to amaze me how quiet it can be in this tournament, which is not the norm, but it can also be very boisterous. Even good shot brings out loud shouts of glee, and every lesser shot brings out a throng of voices offering encouragement. There is no doubt that there is team spirit here at SC II!!!
Competitors were joined at the Medal Ceremony by Ally Klinck, from the Winnipeg Humane Society. Ally was kind enough to have accompany her volunteer Tim and companion, Gordon, a pet therapy dog, who both helped celebrate today’s champions.

Silver: Linda G.
Bronze: Dana I.
Day 4 is almost over except for the feverish bingo players that will gather this evening to make a play for some big "funny money" bucks!! Good luck all, and have fun.
See you tomorrow on the last leg of our Yellow Brick Road journey!!!

Good day, sports fans!!
Welcome to day 4 of the Senior Games.Bocce
At Sturgeon Creek II, 14 avid bocce bowlers battled for medals. It was a stiff competition, and scores were consistently the lowest this reporter has seen in 14 years. Today, there were no ties to be addressed in order to move forward to the play-off round, and spectators were delighted with more exceptional performances. In the last round of the play-offs, the palina was the farthest down the court it had been all day, but true to SC II fashion, competitors rose to the challenge and showed off their abilities with some very significant throws.
Congratulations to our medal winners:

Wow!! Wow!! And more Wow!! What an exciting afternoon we’ve had here at SC II with our corn hole toss competition. Not only did we have a large number of players, but the theater was filled to max capacity by the cheerleaders. Nobody was disappointed with the competition as there were so many absolutely fantastic shots being made. We had our usual tie breaker at the end of the competition to determine who would advance to the medal round. Not only did we have a 2 but a 3 way tie this time round. When all was said and done, we had 3 medal winners established. The medalists were: Bronze-Brian T., Silver-Gerry A., and gold-Harvey A.

The most touching part of the day came when the medalists for corn hole toss were announced. Harvey A. called me over to inform me that he would not receive his gold medal as he had already won a medal yesterday and he would like to have someone else get the medal!!!! If that isn’t a showing of the kind of folks that live at SC II, with Harvey A. leading the pack, I don’t know what is. We came to the decision that Charlie B. would receive the medal, as he was one involved in the tie breaker. Harvey and Charlie were called to the podium to receive the medal, and Harvey had the honor to hang it around Charlie’s neck. There was scarce a dry eye in the house when I explained how this medal presentation came to be.

We were joined by Harvey H., from 1JustCity at the medal ceremony, who brought greetings, information and his congratulations to all participants and cheerleaders. He assisted with the bestowing of the medals and graciously posed with our winners!!!

So ends day 3 of the 2026 Senior Games, and what a day it has been!!!
I do not know if we can top it, but the one thing I do know is that we are gonna give it our best shot!!
See you tomorrow somewhere along the Yellow Brick Road.
Good night.

Good morning Senior Game Fans!!! We are off and running with Day 3 events. This morning we took to the ladder ball court, and 11 raring-to-go competitors showed up bright eyed and bushy tailed!! As always, they put on quite a show for us, with balls flying and twirling and swirling through the air. Some went under the ladder, some went over the ladder, some went to the right and some went to the left, but many hung on a ladder. We were fored into a tie breaker to determine our play-off competitors, then were treated to some more fantastic shot making to determine our medal winners. Our medal winners were: Bronze-Joanne C., Silver-Pat. C., and our Gold medal winner Brian T. Scores have been sent into headoffice, as ladder ball was our secend and final national event. In house medals will be presented at this afternoon's medal ceremony at 3 p.m.
Enjoy a hearty lunch and we'll hope to see many competitors and cheerleads this afternoon at the corn hole toss event!!

Day 2 of the Senior Games started off bright and early with the bean bag competition, where 14 competitors took to the court to battle it out for the medals. We were very pleased to have a first timer in the group, and well done, Charlie B.—you just might be hired as our coach!!! Amidst a lot of comments such as “It’s so early—we’re not awake yet” 6 players clearly showed what they were made of and moved into the play-off round, where maybe nerves got the better of one, but in the end 3 winners were clearly established.

Medal: Athletes Name: Score:
Gold: Brian T. 1000
Silver: Heather F. 912.5
Bronze: Jerry V. 812.5

This afternoon 17 anxious players vied for the opportunity to toss the boules to determine the front runners for the medals in our petanque event, which is the first of our National Events.
Back to our typical SC II fashion, we had our first tie of the games in the initial round of petanque play. These 2 players advanced to the final round where each of them secured a medal victory!!

Medal: Athletes Name:
Gold: Lori F.
Silver: Harvey A.
Bronze: Alice M.

These medaling scores will be sent into head office, where scores from every All Seniors Care facility will be tallied and National Medals will be awarded at the closing ceremony of Friday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m.

Alana Evans from the Alzheimer’s Society joined us for a ceremony overflowing with pride and emotion. Medals shone brightly — but the true glow came from the smiles, hugs, and joyful tears of the athletes.

All are encouraged to get a good night’s rest before day 3 begins tomorrow, again at 9:30 a.m., where we go for the gold in our ladder ball event.

Sleep tight and see you on the Yellow Brick Road tomorrow!!

Walk & Roll and Opening Ceremony

At Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence, 23 walkers and rollers set off on their own Yellow Brick Road adventure, challenging themselves to see how far they could go. After walking, all present were treated to entertainment with The Invisible Guys Trio and a beautiful assortment of fruits for a rejuvenating snack.

Walkers and rollers were honored to have a selection of water table dignitaries cheering them on and keeping them hydrated. They were thrilled to also have in attendance, besides all the VIP’s, Sage, the Winnipeg Police mascot, a larger-than-life dog with a waggly tail!!!

Omar Abdullahi, Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, commented, “When I entered the facility, I could feel the energy and vibes from everyone involved in the event!”

Athletes and volunteers gathered for the Opening Ceremony, joined by esteemed guests from the community, business sector, and government. Dignitaries included:
• All Seniors Care Senior Executive Vice-President of Operations, Josh Kuhl
• MLA Assiniboia, Minister of Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport, Nellie Kennedy
• Jon Einarson, Grace Hospital Foundation Executive Director
• Manuel Ortega, Grace Hospital Foundation Administrative Coordinator
• Winnipeg Police Service Constables Andrea LaForte, Shelby Baron, Alan Quan, and Sage, the mascot
• Winnipeg Fire & Paramedic Service Deputy Chief of Safety, Emergency Management & Public Information, Jason Shaw, Louise Boily, Tamra Irwin and Omar Abdullahi
Water Table Cheerleaders:
• Linda Brown, Active Aging
• Carol Dickin, Leila Pharmacy
All extended their congratulations and good wishes to the participants. Their words of encouragement set the perfect tone for an exciting week ahead. With the Games officially open everyone at Sturgeon Creek II is looking forward to some healthy competition in the week ahead.

After the corn hole toss demonstration, where games assistant Pat C. sunk her bag, MLA Nellie Kennedy exclaimed, “I really don’t want to have to follow that throw!!” But follow it she did, with her own success!! Congratulations, Nellie!!!

Everyone should get a good nights rest as tommorrow the competitions for the medals begin!!!
