It’s been 6 weeks of climbing 1x per week. And it’s feeling so, so good. Don’t let the kinesiology tape make you think otherwise. As the strength and endurance improves with the consistency, the difficulty of the climbing problems also progresses. I’m trying to stay ahead of a past wrist injury, which was making itself known this week while working on some of you at the office. Feeling slight discomfort with everyday tasks normally doesn’t have me shy away from activity, but it has me mindful of tolerance/capacity/limit. I know what movements and climbing holds are provocative. I allow myself an attempt or two, and if the problem isn’t completed, I know to walk away for the time being. While I felt a little strain on this one, this problem was simply fun, and felt great to complete.
I always enjoy discussing how to approach activity safely. Our bodies are adaptable. And when given slow and progressive loading strategies, we can usually mitigate injury risk. We’ve all learned it the hard way, myself included. We can all continue to enjoy the activities we love most, even if an injury is sustained. We may just need to be smarter about it.
Wishing everyone a wonderful long weekend!
