We’re reaching the middle of April, so we just wanted to let you know April is actually Heartworm Awareness Month ❤️🐾

Murphy, Ume and Busch were few of the dogs that we did 4DX tests for to see if they have caught anything from last year, including Heartworm disease.

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that can affect both dogs and cats. It’s caused by parasites that are spread through mosquito bites—and once infected, treatment can be costly and complex.

The good news? Heartworm disease is preventable.

Keeping your pet on a regular heartworm prevention plan is the best way to protect them. Even indoor pets can be at risk, especially as the weather warms up and mosquitoes become more active.

Not sure if your pet is up to date on their prevention? We’re here to help! Give us a call or book an appointment to make sure your furry friend is covered for the season ahead.

Let’s work together to keep those tails wagging and hearts healthy 💙

Walk. Sniff. Play. Repeat. 🌿🐾

Today is Take a Walk in the Park Day, so grab a leash and head on outside with your pet for some fresh air. A simple walk can do wonders for your pet’s health—helping maintain a healthy weight, keep their mobility going and even help with keeping their digestive tract regulated 💚

Take some time today to explore, sniff, and enjoy the outdoors together 🐕🌳

Because a happy pet is a healthy pet!

Mischief managed… almost!

This silly girl, Bella, decided an entire bag of grapes would make the perfect snack — and landed herself in our clinic for an emergency visit. 🍇

Grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs and can cause sudden kidney failure, even in small amounts. The tricky part? There’s no safe dose — some dogs can become very sick from just a few. Symptoms may include vomiting, lethargy, decreased appetite, and later, serious kidney complications.

Thanks to her owner’s quick action, we were able to induce vomiting right away and start treatment immediately. Because they didn’t wait, Bella is back on a healthy track — with vet-approved snacks only from now on. 💜

If your pet eats something they shouldn’t, call your veterinarian right away. Acting fast can make all the difference.

Meet Jets 🐾✨

Our one and only mascot, Jets the Yorkshire Terrier, proudly represents all the tiny (but mighty!) patients here at Silver Heights Veterinary Hospital! Don’t let his small size fool you—Jets has a big message for all pet parents:

Heartworm and Lyme disease are serious, but prevention starts with a simple blood test. Regular heartworm/Lyme screening helps us catch problems early and keep your furry family members protected from harmful parasites year-round.

Pucker up, it’s St. Catrick’s Day… and Percy’s giving sweet and sassy for Tongue’s Out Tuesday! 😛☘️

Percy is feeling extra lucky this St. Patrick’s Day! This adorable little leprechaun stopped by to see Dr. Kahlon for his Feline Leukemia (FeLV) vaccine — and he shamrocked it! 💚

So what is Feline Leukemia (FeLV)?
FeLV is a contagious viral disease that affects cats and can suppress the immune system, making it harder for them to fight off infections. In some cases, it can lead to anemia, chronic illness, or even certain cancers.

How is it spread?
FeLV is most commonly transmitted through:

Close contact with infected cats

Grooming and sharing food/water bowls

Bite wounds

From mother cats to their kittens

Because kittens and young cats are especially vulnerable, vaccination is an important step in protecting their long-term health — especially if they may have contact with other cats.

If you have a new kitten at home or have questions about the FeLV vaccine, we’re here to help. Give us a call to make sure your little lucky charm is protected! 💚🐾

Spring is just around the corner 🌷☀️ — and with warmer weather comes the return of parasites

What you’re seeing in these photos:

🔬 A microscopic view of heartworm circulating in a blood sample

🧫 A Lyme-positive SNAP test from a patient’s blood sample

These are real reminders that parasites are active — often before we realize it.

🌡️ Remember: if it’s over 4°C (39°F), ticks are active and looking for a host!

At Silver Heights Veterinary Hospital, we recommend testing before giving heartworm prevention as existing heartworm disease can cause complications. A quick blood test helps us make sure it’s safe to start (or restart) protection.

Spring is the perfect time to test, protect, and prevent.
Call us to book your pet’s blood screening and stay ahead of parasite season! 🌼🐾

Bandit was all purrs and bravery during her recent spay surgery with Dr. Kahlon! 🌸🐾

This sweet kitten rocked the cutest little flower cone while she recovered, and we couldn’t get enough of her tiny whiskered face peeking out.

Spaying or neutering is so important for your pet’s long-term health. These procedures help prevent certain cancers and infections, reduce unwanted behaviors, and play a big role in preventing pet overpopulation in our community.

We’re so proud of Bandit for being such a superstar patient! 💕 If you have questions about spaying or neutering your pet, our team is always here to help!

🐾Spread savings, not disease! 🐾

Spring is here (no seriously, trust us on this one), and the parasites are waking up with the warmer (stay with us) weather. March and April are prime months for heartworm and tick‑borne illness testing, and early screening is one of the simplest ways to keep your pet healthy all season long.

🐛Heartworm is carried by mosquitoes long before you start noticing them.

🕷Ticks become active as soon as temperatures rise above freezing.

Early testing helps catch problems before they become serious — and keeps prevention simple and affordable.

We’re offering special spring savings on combined heartworm + tick‑borne disease testing. (*Up to 25% off of your dogs test, and 10% off of a full season of prevention!)

💖Protect their heart, protect their health, and protect your wallet at the same time.

Call, or click to book your pet’s spring screening.
Let’s make this the season we spread savings, not disease.

Silver Heights Veterinary Hospital would like to introduce our new buddy, Ace! 🐾💙

This handsome Rottweiler puppy was recently in to see Dr. Perrault for his second round of puppy vaccines, and we just had to brag on him a little. Ace was an excellent patient—sat so nicely and politely for his cookies (10/10 good boy behavior ✨).

🐶 Puppy vaccine reminder:

To build strong, lasting immunity, puppies need a series of 3 distemper/parvo vaccines given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. This schedule is so important to protect them from these serious and potentially devastating illnesses while their immune systems are still developing.

We’re so proud of you, Ace, and we can’t wait to watch you grow!
