In 2019, Ashley Newton started Alterna Cremation with a vision to create something more honest, more transparent, and more compassionate for families navigating loss.

Today, that vision has grown into something historic.

Ashley has designed and built what is believed to be the first crematorium in Canada built by a woman, in an industry traditionally led by men.

Alterna Cremation is also proudly a women owned and women operated business, with a team of dedicated women working together to support families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Construction of the crematorium is now complete, and we look forward to beginning operations later this month.

We are incredibly proud to be part of a moment that represents not only progress in funeral care, but a step forward for women in business and leadership. 💜

As 2025 comes to a close, I just want to say thank you. This year brought many meaningful moments, but breaking ground on our new crematorium was a highlight I will always hold close. It’s a step forward in continuing to offer families simple, dignified, and transparent care. I’m so grateful for the trust placed in Alterna and for everyone who has been part of this journey.
