Gender affirming health care saves lives. I know, because it’s helped save mine.

As director of MHC, I am here to defend the public health care system for all Manitobans. I am passionate about not just defending, but improving our public health care system. It’s not enough to protect what elements of public health care already exist, or exist on paper without timely, reliable access.

Wait-lists for accessing gender affirming care in Manitoba are dangerously, unacceptably long. Many elements of gender affirming care are not publicly offered, or are not offered here at home. We can do better for our fellow Manitobans.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, I am proud to be a trans man fighting to build a better Manitoba for all who call this place home. Without support, including timely access to publicly funded gender affirming health care, visibility can be dangerous. But together, we can build a Manitoba where everyone is free to be visibly and authentically who they are.

Two people in Canada have died after selling blood plasma, and multiple sites have been found non-compliant with safety regulations. So why are these for-profit Grifols collection sites still operating?

Friends of Medicare and other health coalitions from across Canada are demanding that Health Canada, Canadian Blood Services and provincial governments take immediate action to end Grifols’ authorization to collect plasma in Canada and to disclose the Canadian Blood Services contract with Grifols ASAP!

Another core value we identified during our strategic planning process is anti-racism.

As a Coalition, we recognize the ongoing reality of structural racism within the health care system in Manitoba. This can take many forms, including anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism (which are particularly prominent). We are committed to taking action to combat racism within health care delivery in Manitoba and to work in collaboration with racialized community members to build an equitable and accessible health care system.

We will call out racism when we see it in the public health care system, recognizing that individual actions are an indicator of a systemic issue.

We will examine and promote policies that actively address structural racism within health care and honour the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

While Budget 2026 promises much needed investment in health care, it does little to combat costly privatization in health care delivery here in Manitoba.

Great, informative article here about the dangers Alberta’s health privatization legislation poses to public health care all across Canada.

Alberta’s promised two-tier transition comes with unacknowledged threats from trade and investment agreements.

One of the core values we identified during our strategic planning process is accessibility.

As a Coalition, we are committed to removing structural barriers from our public health care system (economic, geographical, identity-based, citizenship status, etc.).

We will strive to make our collaboration, education, and research accessible to the community.
